Saint Mary's College of California invites applications for part-time Sustainability Coordinator position (15 hours per week) to join the Office of Sustainability. These positions will work closely with the Office of the Provost and other campus leaders to advance environmental sustainability initiatives across the College. The ideal candidates will contribute to the development and execution of the College's sustainability goals, focusing on reducing the environmental impact of campus operations, engaging the campus community in sustainability efforts, and supporting educational programming.
The Sustainability Coordinators will collaborate on a variety of sustainability-related projects and will work closely with faculty, staff, and students to foster a culture of environmental stewardship. These roles are ideal for individuals passionate about sustainability and eager to make a tangible impact on campus and the broader community.
Requirements
1. Campus Legacy Garden Stewardship (Primary Responsibility)
Maintain and enhance the health, beauty, and educational value of the Campus Legacy Garden as a living sustainability resource.
Coordinate volunteer days, work sessions, and experiential learning opportunities tied to garden activities.
Serve as the main point of contact for faculty, student groups, and community partners using the garden for instruction, service, or research.
Develop seasonal planting, care, and harvesting plans aligned with sustainability goals and academic calendars.
2. Supervision of CCAC Fellows
Supervisory responsibility for the next cohort of California Climate Action Corps (CCAC) Fellows, in collaboration with our partner organization, Bay Area Community Resources (BACR). For the 2025-26 service term, BACR has confirmed funding through AmeriCorps and has approved our program to host three fellows. The selected candidate will provide ongoing mentorship, support, and guidance to these fellows, including:
Onboarding and orientation
Weekly check-ins and project alignment
Professional development support
Liaison with BACR program staff to ensure compliance with fellowship goals and reporting
This supervisory role is integral to the success of our sustainability initiatives and supports a collaborative, high-impact service learning environment.
3. Student and Faculty Engagement
Facilitate sustainability-focused student leadership opportunities and coordinate involvement in garden and campus-wide projects.
Provide support to faculty and staff seeking to integrate garden-based or broader sustainability concepts into courses, programming, or operations.
Help manage communication channels to engage the campus community in sustainability events and learning experiences.
4. Sustainability Program Support
Assist in the design and implementation of campus sustainability initiatives, such as waste diversion, energy reduction, and sustainable food practices.
Collaborate with departments and student organizations to promote sustainable behaviors and campus culture shifts.
Support the planning of outreach campaigns, themed events, and co-curricular programming.
5. Data Collection and Reporting
Assist with the collection and organization of sustainability data related to energy, water, waste, and garden production.
Contribute to internal reporting and external communications, such as the annual Sustainability Report, by analyzing trends and documenting project outcomes.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
1. Educational and/or professional experience in Environmental Studies, Sustainability, or a related field preferred.
2. Prior experience in sustainability work or campus leadership roles is desirable but not required.
Skills & Abilities:
1. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
2. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
3. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
5. Familiarity with sustainability-related software tools and data tracking systems is a plus.

Working Conditions:
