Job Description

The University of Maryland, Baltimore’s (UMB) Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science (PTRS) within the School of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Specialist, Communications and Marketing.

The Senior Specialist will report to the Administrator and will perform a variety of tasks to provide information to various audiences to support the department and its mission using multiple media outlets. This position is responsible for activities surrounding marketing and public relations for the department as a whole.

PTRS currently offers degrees in Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), Doctor of Philosophy in Physical Rehabilitation Science (PhD), Dual DPT-PhD and Dual DPT-Master of Public Health (DPT-MPH). PTRS is dedicated to advancing the profession of rehabilitation through high-quality teaching, research, service and excellence in clinical practice.

Primary Duties:

Recommends and implements strategies to achieve communication and marketing goals for the department; Perform market research projects when necessary.
Prepare press releases and marketing information for media and communication distribution. Ensure department image is positively maintained.
Develops, writes and edits internal and external materials to target audiences for department communications, including multimedia content for use on the web and social media sites.
Creates and produces informational items such as brochures, direct mail and advertising to promote the department and to support department events. Contacts potential students, faculty and partners from leads generated.
Research and creates novel approaches to building business such as special events, media outlets, special services or incentives. Identify needs and develop communication strategies with marketing specifications including defined outcomes and deadlines.
Create, update and maintain content to showcase the department for prospective students, faculty and visitors and maintain a consistent message and brand.
Maintains a database or other records of projects.
Develop relationships and maintains contact with various media outlets.
Tracks metrics associated with communication's programs.
React to and interact with media representatives to develop and maintain relationships, communicate about our academic programs and activities, and respond to media inquiries.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Education: Bachelor’s degree

Experience: Three years' experience in marketing, communications, public relations or content management. Experience with social media and web platforms.

High level of Proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel, Forms, Teams), SurveyMonkey, and Eventbrite.

Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.

HIRING RANGE: $76,500 - $85,000 per year (Commensurate with education and experience)
