Under the direction of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, implement the University's strategic plan as it pertains to all matters of faculty professional development and the advancement/success of faculty members. Coordinate, administer, and assess programs that support the faculty lifecycle (recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, career pathways, retention, retirement, etc.) and supports student success.

Job Function:

Coordinate, administer, and assess programs that support the faculty lifecycle (recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, career pathways, retention, retirement, etc.) and supports student success.

Minimum Education:

Earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution of higher education.

Minimum Experience:

A distinguished record of scholarship, teaching, and professional accomplishments that are sufficient to qualify for appointment at the rank of associate professor or higher in an academic department at the University.

Preferred Experience:

Experience in faculty governance; strong background in BSU academic policies and procedures; experience in University administration; experience as a chair, program director, or similar leadership role; experience engaging in confidential conversations on sensitive topics;

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In consultation with and under the guidance of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, support and implement a vision of academic transformation, experimentation, and growth that is aligned with the University's strategic plan. Serve as the Vice Provost's primary support person for all matters related to Faculty Affairs and Professional Development.
  • Provide effective faculty development opportunities that meet the varied needs of faculty members at different stages of their careers, including mentorship, professional development, leadership programs, and support for early, mid, and late career faculty; support Alpha Day Orientation, New Faculty Academy, Non-Tenure Line Faculty Academy, Mid Career faculty mentoring, and Encore opportunities. Collaborate with the VP for AA to support the Center for Faculty Excellence
  • Work with the VP for AA to maintain faculty-oriented processes and procedures that are clear, consistent, data-driven, fair, and efficient. Manage and oversee the Grade Appeals process and the Academic Integrity Process, and maintain digital records in the office of the VP for AA.
  • In consultation with the Director for Immersive Learning and High Impact Practices, establish and maintain processes and procedures related to HIPs that are clear, consistent, data-driven, fair, and efficient; engage in long- and short- term planning and Immersive Learning programming for faculty and students that includes assessment and student learning outcomes. Scaffold and streamline systems to encourage immersive learning projects and high impact practices across campus.
  • Manage and oversee the University Outstanding Awards process, as well as the Lawhead award. Work with other University offices, including the Office of Sponsored Projects, to build and sustain a faculty of distinction; provide access to resources and provide support to encourage faculty excellence.
  • Meet monthly with the Director of Research and Academic Effectiveness; work towards the continuous improvement of the evaluation of teaching across campus.
  • Serve as a resource to the VPAA and to the Provost concerning Faculty governance. Provide information and support as needed.
  • Keep the Department Chairs handbook updated; meet with department chairs and/or visit academic units to present information about academic policies and procedures.
  • Serve on University-wide committees and advisory bodies as assigned; represent the VP for Academic Affairs at various events, meetings, and forums as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Work collaborative with other University offices to create and support professional development opportunities related to innovative teaching, learning, assessment, and engagement; serve as a liaison to Student Affairs concerning student concerns as needed; support work life initiatives in connection with other campus offices.
