Position description
Applications are invited for one full-time tenure track Assistant Professor of Accounting, position number 102180. The position is available with an August, 2025 start date, dependent upon university funding. Primary teaching duties will be undergraduate and graduate courses in Accounting (face-to-face and online), especially courses associated with Cost and Managerial Accounting, and other Accounting-related courses to adequately provide a good foundation in Accounting and to prepare students for other classes within the department and the College of Business.
The University of West Florida, located in Pensacola, FL, primarily emphasizes quality teaching. In addition, faculty members are expected to publish in quality refereed journals, maintain AACSB academic qualifications, perform career and academic counseling, and serve on departmental, college, and university committees. A normal teaching load is three courses per semester. This position may require teaching at the nearby Fort Walton Beach campus of the university (approximately 50 miles east of the Pensacola campus). Salary is AACSB competitive and will be commensurate with experience.
Minimum Qualifications
• Doctoral degree from an AACSB-accredited institution in Accounting or a closely related field, including at least 18 graduate semester hours in Accounting and a strong commitment to teaching, academic research, and service.
• Pertinent work experience, continuing professional development, and an active research agenda to maintain qualifications for performing teaching assignments.
• Relevant teaching experience, including proven effectiveness in online course development and teaching.
• Demonstrated experience teaching Cost and Managerial Accounting courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at an AACSB-accredited institution.
• Highly effective teaching experience as evidenced by teaching honors and awards.
• Evidence of potential for quality scholarship, including publication in qualifying academic journals.
• Must meet the requirements outlined in the College of Business Policy on Faculty Qualifications for an assistant professor position (scholarly academic category).
Preferred Qualifications
• Doctoral degree in Accounting from an AACSB-accredited institution or a closely related field, with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Accounting. Regardless of degree, it must be coupled with pertinent work experience, continuing professional development, and a robust research agenda.
• Strong preference for candidates with coursework or work experience in Cost and Managerial Accounting-related topics. Must be able to provide evidence of having taught Cost and Managerial Accounting courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at an AACSB-accredited institution.
• Solid commitment to teaching, academic research, and service.
• Candidate must meet the requirements outlined in the College of Business Policy on Faculty Qualifications for an assistant professor position (scholarly academic category).
• Preferred candidates will also have relevant teaching experience, to include proven effectiveness in online course development and teaching.
• Preference will be given to candidates with papers published in peer-reviewed journals acceptable to the Department.
