The Secure Embedded Systems department (5327) is seeking a motivated electrical or electronics engineer to support large multi-disciplinary programs critical to national security. The successful candidate will support the design, development, test, and deployment of novel embedded computing solutions. The successful candidate will have a background and understanding of printed circuit board design, test, and debug; state-of-the-art computing (FPGAs, SoC, etc.); and a readiness to apply this understanding to a variety of hardware systems.

You will work alongside world-class authorities and emerging leaders and use your skills in the following areas:

  • Design, test, and deploy custom circuit boards
  • Develop and execute hardware debug strategies
  • Create novel solutions with state-of-the-art hardware
  • Team with FPGA, firmware, and software engineers to create embedded computing solutions

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Relocation will be provided for those that qualify.

Salary Range:

$114,000 - $227,500

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and relevant experience.*
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.

*Equivalent education and experience must be engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.

Qualifications We Desire:

The ideal R&D S&E Electrical Engineer candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:

  • Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
  • Active DOE Q or DOD TS security clearance.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate well in a multidisciplinary team of designers and test engineers.
  • Outstanding verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling.

Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:

  • Experience in electrical and computer systems design and development for real-time and embedded processing systems.
  • Experience with printed circuit board (PCB) design, layout, and testing for applications involving state-of-the-art FPGAs, highspeed, and large memory
  • Experience with electrical cable set design and test
  • Experience with hardware debugging tools like oscilloscopes and logic analyzers
  • Experience with FPGA design, development, and debug
  • Familiarity with hardware requirements generation for verification, validation, and qualification.
  • Demonstrated technical experience with some of the following:
  • Electronics development - power and signal conditioning, filter application, analog-to-digital conversion, microcontrollers, and digital interfaces.
  • Familiarity with signal processing
  • Experience with inertial sensors (accelerometers, gyroscopes, magnetometers)
  • Experience with Altium, Siemens EDA (Xpedition/PADS), or similar schematic capture software tools and circuit simulation tools (PSpice or similar)
  • Experience with MATLAB, C, Labview, or Python

Organization 5327, the Secure Embedded Systems department focuses on the development of secure and resilient computing solutions critical for national security.
