The Associate Dean works with students, faculty, and alumni to create points of connection between the curricular aims of the college and co-curricular programming, including the new Honors Milestone Alumni Mentors program. Job Function:
Assist the Dean in the leadership of the Honors College. The Associate Dean of the Honors College recruits faculty from across campus to teach in honors, develops the honors course schedule, and chairs the Honors College Curriculum Committee.
Minimum Education:
Earned terminal degree in an academic discipline.
Minimum Experience:
Significant experience in higher education; administrative experience at the department, school, or other collegiate level.
Preferred Experience:
Experience as departmental chairperson, school director, or similar administrative duties ; tenured associate or full professor or non-tenure-line associate or full teaching, research, clinical, or of-practice professor; a record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and professional service; successful experience in teaching in an Honors program or college; experience in Ball State's Honors College.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate, administer, develop, and nurture the Honors College curriculum.
- Monitor the College’s core curriculum as well as the series of colloquia and the senior project; work with Honors College faculty to provide students with current and detailed information on course offerings. Chair the Honors College Curriculum Committee.
- Support the recruitment of outstanding faculty to teach Honors College courses; work with department chairs and assistant chairs to create schedules for Honors faculty. Assist the Dean in developing and administrating the Ball Brothers Foundation Honors Faculty Fellowships.
- Teach at least one course per year within the Honors College curriculum, as negotiated with the Dean.
- Serve on Honors College Budget Committee, Scholarship Committee, and other college committees as assigned by Dean.
- Support the Dean, Senior Advisor, Coordinator of Honors Recruitment and Retention, and Director of Student Success and First-Year Programs in planning and implementing the summer orientation for incoming Honors College students.
- Work to develop new on- and off-campus programs for honors students; support opportunities for student attendance and presentation of papers at professional meetings.
- Work collaboratively with the Honors College Academic Advisors.
- Support the Dean with fundraising for Honors College initiatives.
- Foster contact between current students and prospective students, between current students and Honors College alumni and friends, and between current students and Honors College or Program students at other institutions. Supervise the Honors College alumni mentor program.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
