This is a full-time, fully remote position based in the Chicagoland area with additional travel to nearby regional areas. This position requires the staff member to build rapport with prospective students and their families, high school counselors and community-based organizations, to support on-campus efforts with occasional participation in events and programming, to plan regional event(s), to think critically and make data-informed decisions, and to have strong interpersonal communication skills.

Job Function:
The Office of Admissions and Orientation is seeking an Assistant Director of Admissions to help support efforts in meeting its total undergraduate enrollment goals with special attention to increasing out-of-state enrollment in Illinois. This is a full-time, fully remote position based in the Chicagoland area with additional travel to nearby regional areas. This position requires the staff member to build rapport with prospective students and their families, high school counselors and community-based organizations, to support on-campus efforts with occasional participation in events and programming, to plan regional event(s), to think critically and make data-informed decisions, and to have strong interpersonal communication skills.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university by time of appointment.
Preferred Education:
Master’s degree.
Minimum Experience:
At least two years of relevant experience based upon job qualifications and the rankings provided of the required responsibilities.
Preferred Experience:
Experience working with and presenting to a diverse student constituency, previous experience in recruitment travel.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage recruitment territory; extensive travel to specific markets within Chicagoland and regional areas. Possess working knowledge and familiarity of high schools and high school counselors in assigned market area, enrollment history into Ball State, and academic profile of each high school; provide support with targeted recruitment visits to feeder high schools, spring visits for early outreach and yield efforts, and make data informed decisions on new areas to cultivate. The staff member will determine which schools to visit, make decisions independently regarding timing and scheduling of visits, perform appropriate follow-up, cultivate non-productive high schools, maintain positive relationships with high school counseling professionals, support community-based organizations, and assessing market culture to meet enrollment goals.
- Execute application file review by exercising autonomy and sound judgment to review applicant files, making admission decisions, and performing appropriate follow-up.
- Positively represent Ball State University to prospective students, their families, counselors, and other individuals and/or organizations involved with the college selection process through phone calls, e-mail, in-person and virtual one-on-one meetings; communicate with various audiences, and counsel students and families.
- Provide support with coordination and assessment of various admissions programs including on- and off-campus yield receptions, recruitment programs, and various special events (i.e. orientation, diversity, and transfer initiatives).
- Perform other related duties as assigned including working a flexible schedule e.g. weekends, evenings and overnights during travel.
- Come to campus on a handful of trips per year to help support major on-campus events and participate in staff-wide training and professional development opportunities.
- Create a dedicated and strategic workspace for remote work, responsibly use and maintain university issued technology, and adhere to data security protocols to maintain student protection and privacy.
