The Assistant Director of Student Life for Service Opportunities will plan and implement student volunteer engagement opportunities designed to provide students with meaningful service opportunities in the local, regional and national community. Provide support and resources for students and student organizations engaged in community service and philanthropy including advising Student Voluntary Services, Dance Marathon, Alternative Breaks, and Cardinal Kitchen. The Assistant Director of Student Life will foster and maintain relationships with community partners to create effective mutually beneficial service opportunities.

Job Function:
The Assistant Director of Student Life for Service Opportunities will plan and implement student volunteer engagement opportunities designed to provide students with meaningful service opportunities in the local, regional and national community. Provide support and resources for students and student organizations engaged in community service and philanthropy including advising Student Voluntary Services, Dance Marathon, Alternative Breaks, and Cardinal Kitchen. The Assistant Director of Student Life will foster and maintain relationships with community partners to create effective mutually beneficial service opportunities.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college by date of appointment.
Preferred Education:
Master’s degree from an accredited university or college by start date in student affairs, college student personnel, higher education administration, counseling, social work, or a related field.
Minimum Experience:
Experience working with college students; clear evidence of skills in program planning and implementation; experience working in a community service organization or working with service-learning.
Preferred Experience:
One or more years of full-time experience working with community service programs, service learning initiatives in a higher education setting with students and student organizations; supervisory experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Recruit, train, supervise, evaluate, and provide ongoing professional development to graduate assistants and student leaders. Ensure the execution of their responsibilities.
- Advise, support, and provide resources to individuals and groups in implementing student-led community service and philanthropic initiatives. Serve as the primary advisor to Student Voluntary Services, Dance Marathon, Cardinal Kitchen, and the Alternative Breaks. Recruit, train, advise and evaluate student leaders and volunteers.
- Provide training and resources for student leaders to ensure student volunteers and leaders participating in programs offered through the Office of Student Life and its supported student organizations learn about and understand how to proactively manage risk, comply with all university policies and procedures, safety and travel protocols, and best practices for student-led service and philanthropic experiences.
- Plan and implement student volunteer and philanthropic experiences; manage logistics, technical support, staffing, training, transportation and other needs for all activities, events, and experiences under assigned areas of responsibility.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with local community service agencies, and university units in support of volunteer, philanthropic, and service-learning initiatives.
- In partnership with the Office of Student Conduct, facilitate community service sanctions for conduct cases.
- Manage annual scholarship and recognition award processes including the Senior Distinguished Service Award and other community service/engagement awards/scholarships.
- Support the preparation of annual budget requests, monitor and approve expenditures, and adhere to all university business protocols and practices. Advise and support student organizations in the development and review of budgets.
- Serve as an Office of Student Life liaison to Riley Children’s Hospital.
- Represent the Office of Student Life and Division of Student Affairs on committees, task forces, special initiatives, working groups and professional associations. Serve as a presenter and participant in Cardinal Preview Days, Admissions Receptions, Admitted Student Day, Summer Bridge Programs, Orientation, and other events as assigned.
- Support the general operation of the Office of Student Life as needed, including participating in all department meetings and initiatives, auxiliary assignments, assisting in the delivery of signature programs and supporting the success of all student organizations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
