Summary
A research nurse position is available for a highly motivated nurse at the USDA/ARS Children's Nutrition Research Center at Baylor College of Medicine. The qualified individual will provide expert research nursing support on the Metabolic Research Unit, a productive nutrition and metabolism research unit focused on mothers and children’s health.The nurse will support clinical research investigators, and interact with multiple team members and research participants.The candidate will follow established guidelines, coordinate research activities and execute research protocols.Excellent venipuncture and intravenous line placement skills are required. Familiarity with research regulations for pediatrics is desirable.
Job Duties
This is an opening for a highly motivated individual to be part of a productive research team.
- Provides principal investigators and their research teams with support in coordinating research activities and execution of research protocols.
- Good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
- Responsible for scheduling of research activities.
- Responsible for maintenance of research database.
- Submits research protocols for regulatory agencies (IRB; research units).
- Performs maintenance of regulatory records on the unit.
- Performs metabolic studies and clinical trials.
- Performs processing and shipment of biologic specimen as needed in coordination with study staff members.
- Serves as a liaison and distributes research information to principal investigator, faculty, research staff, and others as required.
- Educates of participants in significant aspects of study.
- Expertly performs phlebotomy, venipuncture.
- Performs other duties as assigned including administrative duties to support the Unit Director.
- Maintains inventory and supervises maintenance and servicing of research equipment on the unit.
- Works a flexible schedule to accommodate children and parents’ schedule (research unit offers evening hours and is open two Saturdays/ month).
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
- Two years of relevant experience as a licensed Registered Nurse (RN).
- Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
