Primary Responsibilities

This position will be involved in research and scholarly activities (RSA) involving residents, fellows, and students. These activities will include providing training in evidence-based medicine, quality and practice improvement projects, and research methods. Additional responsibilities include engaging in collaborative research and scholarly projects, serving as a resource to the department, SCM, college, and university, and other duties assigned by Department Chair and/or other appropriate University authority. This position will contribute to RSA education for residents and students to fulfill Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accreditation standards, as well as for students to fulfill Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accreditation standards. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Teach within the Family Medicine residency program’s longitudinal RSA curriculum including scheduled instruction, and directing, advising, and supervising learners conducting RSA projects. Content areas include critical appraisal, research methods, evidence-based medicine, and quality improvement.
  • Teach within the SCM’s physician assistant (PA) program directing or co-directing the lifestyle medicine course; and provide regularly scheduled instruction on medical student lifestyle medicine and RSA topics and student RSA project supervision. Additional teaching responsibilities will be based on discipline and expertise.
  • Contribute to a community of demonstrably productive scholars in the department and SCM through collaboration with faculty in their investigator-initiated RSA.
  • Conduct own scholarly investigations and make efforts to secure external funding for RSA.
  • Participate in training and program grant development and implementation.
  • Disseminate scholarly work and educational expertise.  Areas for dissemination include teaching, learner assessment, and outcomes of research and scholarly projects.
  • Provide organizational service to the department, school, college, and university, and professional service to professional societies and organizations in alignment with the faculty member's discipline and profession.
  • Candidates should have a PhD or DrPH. 

Preferences:

  • Previous academic experience.
  • Extensive experience with evidence-based medicine, quality and improvement projects, ACGME and LCME accreditation standards.
