Ball State University Libraries seeks two energetic and creative librarians to join our Research and Teaching Services team. Research and Teaching librarians provide information and digital literacy instruction, in‐depth research consultations, and serve as liaisons to academic departments. Minimum Education:

MLS/MLIS/MIS degree from an ALA accredited program at time of employment.

Preferred Education:

Additional advanced degrees

Minimum Experience:

Experience with and strong commitment to building relationships to further the library mission through liaison activities, reference and library instruction; experience with electronic information services and library systems and their applications for reference and instruction.

Preferred Experience:

Experience providing subject-specific library instruction in an academic library setting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Librarian Liaison to faculty and students in selected academic departments to establish cooperative efforts and one-on-one communication; promote library services, collections and expertise to the University community, and make referrals to other library units.
  • Develop and promote course-related information literacy programs and library research training for the University Community; review curriculum and work with teaching faculty to advance learning outcomes.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement workshops and other instructional opportunities for the University community; create and produce effective informational and instructional materials and techniques; develop new instruction applications of technology including integrations with campus learning systems and platforms.
  • Create, develop, provide and evaluate reference service using print and electronic sources to University and community library users in Bracken Library, and through remote access and referral to other library collections and service units.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations concerning the selection and implementation of new technologies to enhance reference services and instruction.
  • Actively participate in and positively contribute to the activities of the Libraries, university, and profession through such opportunities as related professional organizations, presentations, committee service, publication, etc.; keep abreast of professional literature and scholarly developments in areas of specialization and pursue opportunities for relevant professional development.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Actively participate in activities such as: develop and create print and online research guides; provide individual appointments for library research via in-person and electronic means; perform reference collection development for print and electronic materials; participate in instructional design; participate in library outreach activities.
