Department Summary

The UNT Department of Philosophy and Religion is the home of the nation's leading Doctoral Program in environmental philosophy and the nation's first Masters Program in the field. The areas of specialization among our faculty include environmental justice, philosophy of ecology, environmental policy, religion and nature, philosophy of science and technology, philosophy of water, philosophy of food, philosophy of energy, eco-phenomenology, and eco-feminism, in addition to the history of philosophy, Ancient Greek, German Romanticism, hermeneutics, critical theory, social-political theory, and contemporary French philosophy, as well as West, South, and East Asian religions and philosophy.

Position Overview

The Administrative Coordinator is Assistant to the Chair, coordinating basic administrative matters between the department and the university at large, specifically with the Dean's office. Work includes public contact in interpreting and promoting the departments programs and administrative decisions.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and three years' of highly responsible and varied office administration or business management experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous higher ed or budgeting experience a plus.

Job Duties:

Monthly Reconciliation of all accounts and grants for Department of Philosophy and Religion. Maintaining up-to-date budget balances. Keep up to date on changes in processes and procedures in order to maintain fiscal compliance. Coordinate with the CLASS Deans office for processing travel.
Onboarding/Offboarding all personnel in the Department. Ensure timely and appropriate payment for all employees within the Department for faculty, staff, and students. Supervising the Administrative Specialist.
Primary purchaser for the Department. Oversee and Reconcile Purchasing Card statements for entire Department. Process requisitions and ABA/IDT.
Maintain general calendar of events for the Department. Event planning for department conferences/Faculty Celebration/Graduate Socials and Speaker Series and Undergraduate recruitment. Ensure all payments and reimbursements are processed for all events. Process all Departmental Scholarships.
Coordinate the repair and maintenance of Departmental printers and photocopier including the coordination of troubleshooting for all technology issues in department. Assists visitors, calls, and general department inquiries. Serve as Records Manager.
Manage technology budget. Perform technical set up in all department offices (faculty and staff), conference room, faculty offices, graduate student common areas and offices. Departmental point of contact for troubleshooting for office computers and accessories for all faculty, staff, graduate students. Oversee updates to departmental websites and social media. Liaison with CAS-IT for permissions to shared drives and web access.
Participate in University training sessions when available and relevant. Act as Department Safety Coordinator.
