What Your Job Will Be Like:
Are you passionate about your work and want to join a dynamic team that solves challenging issues for our Nation’s security? If so, the Sandia National Laboratories Diagnostic and Instrumentation Services Department is seeking an experienced Environmental Professional to join the Sample Management Office (SMO) team.
On any given day, you may be called upon to:
- Manage contractor laboratory services.
- Provide technical review of proposals/statements of work (SOW) and oversee laboratory performance following contract award.
- Perform review of laboratory data to ensure appropriate Quality Control analyses have been performed in accordance with the SNL/NM SOW for Analytical Laboratories.
- Monitor data deliverables for compliance with contract and customer requirements, and follow-up on any data package corrections.
- Perform electronic data transfer and Quality Control of data entered into the database.
- Work with the customer to develop technical criteria for analytical services and data usability and select analytical methods to meet customer Data Quality Objective requirements.
- Act as a point of contact between customers and the analytical laboratories.
- Notify analytical laboratories of any quality assurance, environmental, safety, health, and sample matrix requirements regarding sample handling, preparation, and analysis.
- Resolve problems, issues, non-conformances, and errors for projects regarding analytical data.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:
$85,100 - $193,600
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or a relevant science or engineering field and (5) years of relevant professional-level experience.
- Knowledge of EPA, DOE, OSHA and NIOSH methods related to environmental, radiological and industrial hygiene analysis.
- Familiarity with a broad spectrum of environmental analytes and their interactions in the environment and sample matrices (i.e. air, water and soil).
- Able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy L-level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire:
- Demonstrated computer skills including working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
- Familiarity with sample preparation and laboratory analysis techniques using wet chemistry (organic and inorganic) and chemical and/or radiological instrumentation.
- Experience supporting analytical laboratory administration including data package verification, processing and quality evaluation.
- Experience developing quality assurance plans, statements of work, and standard operating procedures.
- Advanced degree in a relevant technical field
- Experience performing Level IV data validation.
- Direct operational experience with conducting laboratory sample analysis using a variety of chemical and/or radiological instrumentation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of general laboratory practices and the ability to implement detailed processes and procedures.
- Working knowledge of statistical methods and method validation.
- Experience in electronic information management.
- Experience in developing sampling and analysis plans.
About Our Team:
The Radiation Protection organization supports the mission of Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) through development and implementation of sound radiation protection principles for the varied radiological activities performed at SNL. As a component of the Radiation Protection organization, the Sample Management Office (SMO) provides centralized management of samples and analyses performed by contract laboratories. The SMO provides technical and administrative support services for sampling and analysis activities. The primary objective of the SMO is to ensure that analytical data is of adequate technical quality and content to meet customer data quality and project requirements. The SMO is designed to provide customers an option for analytical services and strives to complement on-site capabilities.
Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
Position Information:
This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.
Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
