Under the direction of the TC Director of Student Success, the Assistant Director for Student Success and Coordinator for the Ryan Navigators Program oversees the program’s day-to-day operations which provide wrap-around services for Ryan Family Scholars, leads data-informed efforts to track scholars’ progress, helps scholars navigate campus-wide services, and assesses program effectiveness. The Assistant Director collaborates with key colleagues across the campus to deliver a four-year programming and educational model that includes individualized communication and culturally responsive interventions. The Assistant Director is part of the TC Student Success Team, whose members are advocates, mentors, and guides for students in Teachers College.

Job Function:
Under the direction of the TC Director of Student Success, the Assistant Director for Student Success and Coordinator for the Ryan Navigators Program oversees the program’s day-to-day operations which provide wrap-around services for Ryan Family Scholars, leads data-informed efforts to track scholars’ progress, helps scholars navigate campus-wide services, and assesses program effectiveness. The Assistant Director collaborates with key colleagues across the campus to deliver a four-year programming and educational model that includes individualized communication and culturally responsive interventions. The Assistant Director is part of the TC Student Success Team, whose members are advocates, mentors, and guides for students in Teachers College.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a relevant field from an accredited institution.
Preferred Education:
Master’s degree in education or relevant field from an accredited institution; completion of classes or trainings regarding data-informed decision-making for student success.
Minimum Experience:
Three years of experience developing student success and retention initiatives for diverse students in a secondary and/or higher education setting, including individualized, tiered interventions; experience with planning and/or facilitating student-oriented academic and social networking events; experience using student data to inform individualized and programmatic decisions, including the ability to use various techniques and methods of assessment, data gathering, and analysis.
Preferred Experience:
Experience developing student success and retention initiatives for underrepresented or historically marginalized student groups.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop relationships with incoming students and foster a sense of belonging and community. Provide holistic, frequent, and individualized support for students’ academic, career, and personal pursuits. Coordinate and deliver direct student services for the Ryan Scholars, prioritizing proactive interventions, and regular data-informed meetings about scholars’ progress.
- Develop relationships with key offices to foster connections between students and the range of student services across campus. Develop a comprehensive database of existing services in conjunction with existing university resources and serve as an advocate and facilitator for student access to and use of these resources.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with key offices to develop academic and career workshops, social networking, and community-building events. Create structures to best support student integration into already existing relevant workshops and social activities by prioritizing connections with offices beyond the Ryan Navigators Suite. Develop a calendar of events that incorporates campus community and like programs to contribute to the growth and development of program participants.
- Serve as an advocate and guide to develop solutions and seek interventions that assist students in overcoming barriers. Develop a data-informed multi-tiered system of support to scaffold and facilitate student access to and use of services. Provide services in conjunction with navigators as needed.
- Maintain records, streamline record keeping processes, and provide documentation and reports related to program objectives, student participation, and progress. Manage and participate in scholar application and selection process and provide data regarding number of applicants and recipients; develop program reports.
- Maintain knowledge of new research and scholarship about student retention and success, academic advising, tutoring and learning assistance, and developmental education in higher education.
- Collaborate with the Director of Diverse Recruitment Initiatives to develop,
organize, publicize, and share resources about the program. - Support college-wide student success initiatives as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
