Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be expected to uphold the College of Business & Aviation (COBA) vision and mission by pursuing excellence in teaching, research, scholarship, and service. Successful candidates will be expected to teach two undergraduate healthcare management (HCMG) courses per semester in a face to face or hyflex environment. In addition, the course load will also include two graduate courses in hospital administration (MHA) which are delivered 100 percent online. In addition, faculty are expected to advise students assigned by the program director. Both undergraduate and graduate courses are taught via a model schedule with a four-course teaching responsibility per semester with occasional summer courses as needed. The undergraduate courses include these subject areas: The U.S. Healthcare System, Healthcare Finance, Population Health, Quality Assessment in a Regulatory Environment, Health Information Exchange, Healthcare Policy, Understanding the Post Acute Care Continuum and HCMG Capstone. Graduate courses include but are not limited to: Leadership and Strategy, Healthcare Finance, Healthcare Economics, HR Management, Data Analytics, Population Health, Research Methods, Applied Research, Medical-legal issues, corporate compliance, and quality/performance improvement. Other courses may be identified and added based on assessment of student outcomes as well as current trends in relevant healthcare management training. Teaching opportunities in the graduate program are based on experience and terminal degree. Course assignments are arranged in conjunction with the healthcare management program director. COBA and Fairmont State University particularly welcome candidates with knowledge, skills and abilities that include:
Demonstrated competence and teaching excellence at the college level including classroom instruction and hybrid format delivery. All faculty must be familiar with Quality Matters principles as Blackboard Ultra is required for course design and implementation.
Commitment and interest in designing student-centered service activities such as independent research and experiential learning.
Participation in recruiting new students by representing the program to constituent groups.
Desire to apply healthcare expertise and academic training to promote ethical and professional behaviors relevant to healthcare management professionals.
Ability to advise and guide students effectively toward meaningful employment opportunities in healthcare organizations while completing a plan to graduate timely. This also includes working with students to help them achieve success as a student in COBA.
Experience in quality assessment, evaluation and performance improvement initiatives as applied to course offerings, relevance of teaching materials, or supervision of adjuncts or graduate assistants.
Participation in department meetings, faculty professional development or university wide training as required; and
Providing office hours that equate to 20 hours per week with accommodation for up to 25 percent virtual office hours. These are communicated to students and peers within COBA.
Perform other academic duties such as department or faculty committees, task forces, etc. as assigned and agreed upon to further goal attainment and outcomes.
Compliance with Fairmont State and COBA policies and procedures.
Minimum Required Education
Minimum requirements include a master’s degree from an accredited organization in healthcare or related field. Preference is given to candidates with an earned doctorate in a business or healthcare field or demonstration of current enrollment in a doctoral program with expected graduation within 5 semesters.
Required Licenses and/or Certifications
Certification in healthcare management or equivalent professional certification preferred. Demonstration of affiliation with state or national healthcare organizations and/or professional development in a pertinent field of healthcare administration will also be considered as equivalent certification or expertise in related subject matter.
