The Communication Department seeks to hire a per-course faculty member to teach Comm 310, Quantitative Methods, in the Spring of 2025.
Mondays and Wednesdays, 1:30 - 3:10pm
Course description
This course is designed to introduce students to the design of empirical research, such as survey, experiment, and content analysis, and the basics of statistics and concepts of hypothesis testing through systematic data collection and analysis. Students will learn to understand existing research in social sciences and to design and execute a project for their own inquiry that are practical and applicable to the construction of generalizable knowledge.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have a graduate degree (PhD or equivalent preferred) in Communication or related field with evidenced teaching experience. The position requires a familiarity with and commitment to the Communication field, student-centered teaching, and a liberal arts education, as well as an appreciation of and respect for the social justice oriented learning/teaching environment Saint Mary's fosters as a Lasallian educational institution.
Note: experience teaching inferential statistics is necessary. Descriptive statistics is sufficient. Please address your experience teaching inferential statistics for Communication in your cover letter.
Candidates must reside in California.
Salary: $9,929 - $13,744, depending on qualifications. The salary will be pro-rated for the remainder of the term. The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
