Job Summary:
UW-Madison's Office of the Registrar is looking for a driven, experienced, self-starting software engineer, who is eager to collaborate with and learn from experienced professionals in higher education. This person will be part of the Application Development and Technical Services team - a small team with a big university impact. The ideal candidate is someone who values opportunities for professional development, wants to work with important student data, and seeks a balance between work and personal time - we encourage it!

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director - Student Enterprise Applications, this position will join a team of developers and other IT professionals to analyze, design, develop, troubleshoot, and maintain the Student Information System (SIS) and Student Administration System PeopleSoft Applications in support of establishing a sustainable institutional technological infrastructure.

The Office of the Registrar supports the teaching and learning mission of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. We are building a better campus community by supporting students, faculty, and staff through the creation and implementation of essential enrollment, curricular, credit, and student record services, tools, and guidance. We are part of the Division of Enrollment Management, which includes the Office of Admissions and Recruitment, Office of Student Financial Aid and SSTAR Lab. Our mission encompasses the following:

The Office of the Registrar has a supportive and progressive working environment. We are a smart, collaborative team of nearly 60, in office suites at the top of 333 East Campus Mall. There are many opportunities for professional development and participation in office activities. Team members also enjoy the flexibility of their choice of work environment: near-fully remote (with a couple required in-person events per year), hybrid, or onsite options available. These options are evaluated on a yearly basis and are subject to a remote work agreement.

Responsibilities:
Leads and/or directs the design, development, testing, debugging, operations, and troubleshooting of software and applications. Conducts system analysis, contributes to strategy development, and provides training and technical guidance to less experienced staff to support information technology business operations. Resolves the most complex problems independently or by guiding team members. Acts as principal contact or lead for development of technical solutions, products or suite of products. Leads analysis and stakeholder engagement for new and ongoing functionality. May lead, coordinate workload, or mentor other staff.
5% Conducts system analysis, reviews, and interprets system requirements, and develops detailed system design specifications for system integration and upgrades
10% Leads application development, integration upgrades, and maintenance projects
5% Consults with clients on project status, proposals, or technical issues
40% Designs and develops well integrated applications that meet present and future business needs
5% Determines testing methodologies and manages the development and implementation of comprehensive test plans
5% Develops data structure and systems performance strategies
5% Trains and provides technical guidance to lower level staff
5% Reviews systems requirements, design, and business processes to ensure the alignment with IT and business strategies
10% Provides expertise on the resolution and technical approach of complex technical design and system integration problems
5% Meet the documented Office of the Registrar standards including but not limited to: standards in customer service, participation, communications, professional development, and testing of processes/systems. Perform other duties as assigned.
5% Demonstrates commitment to the University's mission statement, particularly to be sensitive and responsive to those groups which have been underserved by higher education. Participation in related learning activities are mandatory.
