Vice President for Administration and Finance

The University of Houston-Clear Lake, a nationally recognized four-year university in Houston, Texas, invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for its next Vice President for Administration and Finance. This is an in person leadership role.

Since opening its doors in 1974, the University of Houston-Clear Lake has filled a vital niche in higher education, offering undergraduate and graduate-level programs. As part of the University of Houston System, it offers graduate and undergraduate programs online or face-to-face at locations in Clear Lake, Pearland, and UHCL at Texas Medical Center. The university offers 70 undergraduate, 45 master’s, and three doctoral degree programs through the College of Business, College of Education, College of Human Sciences and Humanities, and the College of Science and Engineering.

The Position

The vice president for administration and finance, reporting directly to the president, serves an integral part of the University of Houston Clear Lake (UHCL) executive leadership team as chief financial officer overseeing an institutional budget of $198 million, providing strategic vision, organization and administrative oversight, and leadership to all aspects of the university’s financial resources and operating budget. The vice president supervises the areas of planning and budget, facilities management and construction, business operations, human resources, and campus public safety/university police. Direct reports under this position include the associate vice president of business operations (currently vacant), the associate vice president facilities management and construction, the associate vice president human resources, the executive director campus public safety/chief of police, the interim director planning and budget, and the executive assistant.

Qualifications

• This position requires a master’s degree in finance, accounting, financial management, or a related field; CPA is preferred.

• A minimum of ten years of progressive leadership experience in financial management is required, with preferred experience in higher education.

• Required knowledge of federal, state, and local accounting rules and regulations, especially GASB, and ideally knowledge of the state of Texas.

• Strong knowledge of financial planning, budgeting, and reporting principles and practices.

• Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, data, and trend analysis.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders effectively.

• Proven leadership skills with the ability to lead, motivate, and mentor staff.

• Demonstrated excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

• Ability to effectively collaborate with leaders in a team environment.
