Key Responsibilities -
Teacher Training/Professional Development:
- Builds, refines, and implements a rigorous framework for ongoing feedback and continuous improvement in aligning teaching to the MEDscience method.
- Directly responsible for developing an intensive 3-month onboarding training plan for new hires and implementing this plan; this requires coordinating with and delegation to other trainers.
- Builds organizational capacity through “train the trainer” method, by building and facilitating an advanced training curriculum to train other lead teachers on how to train new teachers in the MEDscience pedagogy.
- Directly responsible for planning, delivering, and coordinating with others (e.g., clinical team, lead teachers) to deliver ongoing teacher development sessions for the teaching team.
- Provides strategic guidance on training and professional development tactics to executive leadership and aligns training program with overall organizational goals and staff development goals.
- Collaborates with the clinical team to ensure alignment between MEDscience curriculum and current best practices in patient care and medical science content.
Lead Teacher:
- Plays leadership role on teaching team responsible for delivering the organization's flagship MEDscience anatomy and physiology curriculum.
- Delivers interactive lectures, simulation cases, and debriefs that utilize innovative and unique pedagogy techniques aligned with program goals of critical thinking, problem solving, building teamwork, communication skills, developing personal health literacy, and continued interest in STEM fields.
- Develops and implements scope and sequence for semester-long partnerships with schools, based on shared priorities. Develops and delivers individual lesson plans, tailored to the priorities of schools and experience level of students.
- Leads and mentors less experienced teachers.
Program Coordination:
- Coordinates the programming for partnering high school classroom teachers for the fall and spring semester courses: leads complex logistics and curriculum discussions with internal team & partner teachers.
- Coordinates within the MEDscience teaching team: establish roles for each session, responsible for the set-up and breakdown of session materials.
- Provides support and training as needed to partnering high school teachers, interns, and volunteers on the MEDscience curriculum and pedagogy.
- Manages / supervises assistant teachers and delegates tasks (e.g., attendance, confirming receipt of consent forms).
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
- Advanced degree is a plus but not required.
- Prior K-12 STEM teaching experience is a plus.
- Experience developing and implementing training and professional development programs in an academic or medical setting.
- Creative, nimble, and proactive, with exceptional ability to anticipate and solve problems. Must possess excellent judgment and understanding of when to elevate issues to executive leadership.
- High level of maturity and empathy with proven ability to build strong relationships and develop trusts with colleagues and a diverse network of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex initiatives and partnerships. Able to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and effectively prioritize time and tasks while adapting to changing needs and priorities.
- Prior management experience is a plus, ideally in a medical or academic setting.
