Job Description
What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic IT students eager to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting. As an intern, you will work alongside experienced professionals, contribute to innovative projects, and gain hands-on experience in various IT disciplines, including system development, networking, network management, and system administration.
Selected applicants will be interviewed by a subcommittee of managers from across the division. Successful candidates will join the internship program and be matched with organizational managers based on their interests and department needs. The internship spans 10 to 14 weeks during the summer and includes on-boarding meetings, laboratory tours, group projects, networking events, and a project presentation to division leadership and management.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Assist in the tactical planning and execution of processes and projects required to deliver services in support of High Security Operations.
- Develop and deliver status reports, service metrics, decision documents, and presentations for services and projects.
- Identify efficiencies and conduct lessons learned for process improvement.
- Capture and record improvement ideas and activities.
- Perform threat assessments and due diligence evaluations of commercial off-the-shelf software.
- Conduct technical evaluations of commercial off-the-shelf software and provide recommendations.
- Work with subject matter experts to implement and document security control implementations and mitigations.
- Utilize continuous monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk).
- Develop dashboards and scripts.
- Deploy, test, and integrate systems in a test environment.

Salary Range:
At Sandia, we value the important work done by our interns and its contribution to National Security. Because of this, our interns earn competitive pay rates. Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. Qualifications We Require:
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
- Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited related undergraduate program
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship

This position is part of the Field Intelligence Element Cyber Security & IT Organization. Sandia’s High Security Operations (HSO) organization supports national security work for the Intelligence Community (IC) and other high-level security customers. HSO’s IT departments enable the reliable and timely delivery of secure IT products and services to meet unique requirements. Services include:
- Daily Operations.

Work spans project management, cybersecurity, system access, desktop administration, networking, systems administration, and hardware/software support.

Security Clearance:
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
