Job Description

Under general supervision, direct, lead, assign, and perform duties related to custodial work required for the cleaning and maintenance of facilities, following proper procedures and techniques; perform set-up of rooms, including audio/visual equipment.

Ball State University welcomes applications for a Custodial Group Leader position.  The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 3pm-11:30pm.

Job Function:

Under general supervision, direct, lead, assign, and perform duties related to custodial work required for the cleaning and maintenance of facilities, following proper procedures and techniques; perform set-up of rooms, including audio/visual equipment.

Minimum Education:

1.High School graduate or equivalent (GED).

Minimum Experience:

1.Two (2) years custodial experience.
2.No allergies to soaps, cleaning agents, chemicals, or environmental factors in custodial service.
3.Must be able to climb/use ladders, scaffolding, and/or manlift of various heights to perform duties.
4.Must be able to demonstrate basic understanding of A/V equipment.
5.Must be able to read and interpret Student Center worksheets.
6.Must be able to handle multiple tasks at once, provide friendly and prompt customer service, and work independently.
7.Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, and University policies, procedures, and communications, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
8.Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy.
9.Must be able to perform all the mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty.
10.You must be 18 years or older.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the assignment and direction of work; evaluate the work performance of assigned employees.
  • Instruct employees in proper methods and use of materials and equipment; assist in training.
  • Requisition custodial supplies and materials.
  • Maintain proper storage and security of supplies and materials.
  • Perform cleaning, set-up, and customer service duties as outlined in the Student Center Custodian job description.
  • Verify attendance of subordinates.
  • Lock and unlock doors in accordance with departmental policies and procedures; maintain security of assigned keys, pagers, and/or radios.
  • Set-up rooms according to set-up work sheet and customer specifications; arrange, move and/or replace furniture, supplies, and equipment as required; report items requiring repair to supervisor; perform minor repairs to furniture and building fixtures.
  • Hook-up audio/visual (A/V) equipment; troubleshoot (A/V) problems for customers and provide related assistance.
  • Change bed linens, make up beds with clean linen as required and laundry of linens/towels, etc.;
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of job related chemicals, and environmental, health, and physical concerns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
