The Department of Urology at the University of Florida College of Medicine is seeking a BC/BE Urologist with clinical expertise in genitourinary reconstructive surgery. The position is at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor level for a full-time, non-tenure faculty position who will enjoy a balanced academic appointment.
Background. The University of Florida (UF) Department of Urology, the premier academic urology training program in the state of Florida. Located at UF Health Shands Hospital, a tertiary referral center that serves the population of north central Florida, southern Georgia and surrounding communities. The candidate would join the department, which has over 20 full-time and part-time urologists who support general, endourology, urologic oncology, female, pediatric, male-infertility, reconstructive, and renal transplant urologic surgery. In addition, the candidate would have a joint appointment at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville, FL. The University of Florida is ranked 5th in the top public schools in the nation. UF College of Medicine is one of 16 colleges within the university and these additional colleges provide an environment rich in cross departmental collaborations. In 2022, research funding at the UF College of Medicine exceeded $349M.
Clinical. The clinical focus is expertise in genitourinary reconstructive surgery. The candidate would join a department recognized for its clinical and research excellence in Urology. The preferred candidate would have expertise in robotic and open surgical approaches to upper and lower urinary tract reconstruction, urethral reconstruction, and urinary fistula management.
Additionally, we are looking for the candidate who may be interested in organizing a multidisciplinary transitional urology practice with our pediatric urology colleagues to help care for these pediatric patients transitioning to adult care.
Research. For those candidates with a keen interest in pursuing research as part of their academic career, the UF College of Medicine is a superb location to practice as it offers excellent intramural funding opportunities in addition to traditional government funding mechanisms. The UF College of Medicine is ranked in the No. 35 in the nation and No. 1 in Florida for NIH research dollars awarded to medical schools and is ranked No. 6 among public institutions. Protected time for research is available for qualified candidates who receive research funding. Mentorship from experienced faculty members will be provide for candidates without prior independent research experience and/or funding. Strong interest and participation in clinical trials is required and will be conducted in conjunction with the UF Clinical and Translational Science Institute and UF Cancer Center.
