You could be the Team Lead to work closely with the manager of the Measurement Sciences and Engineering Department. This is a multi-disciplinary team that provides cutting edge imaging, diagnostic measurements, and electrical design/analysis for large and small scale test work supporting Sandia’s National Security Missions. Our work includes R&D developing innovative quantitative instrumentation and imaging measurements that work in harsh conditions, field deployment of measurement systems, data collection, data analysis, design of new data collection techniques and fire-set electrical design/analysis. We collaborate with many national laboratories and government agencies, providing our customers with critical data and information for model validation, hardware qualification, and engineering development.
The Department is a part of the Validation and Qualification Sciences Experimental Complex that includes a range of state-of-the-art research, testing, and analysis capabilities for large scale thermal and mechanical environments.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee a dynamic team supporting data collection for a diverse set of tests across Sandia and in partnership with external test ranges in the design, setup, execution, and analysis of large and small scale tests that are conducted to support nuclear weapons development and qualification missions as well as strategic partnership (non-DOE) programs every year.
- Oversee the day-to-day testing activities and have daily involvement with Test Directors, Technologists, and customers regarding all aspects of testing.
- Help keep track of budgets, schedule, and deliverables.
- Develop and enforce lab standards that ensure operations are conducted in a safe, secure, and quality manner.
- Oversee formal training, on-the-job training, and qualification program for members of the team.
- Assist department manager with employee recruitment, training, performance assessment, work assignments, and recognition.
- Oversee large and small scale test setup and data collection activities at Sandia’s world-class test facilities (outdoor and indoor), including the Aerial Cable Facility, the Superfuge, Vibration & Mechanical Shock Labs, Drop Towers, Thermal Test Complex, Sled Track Facility, Explosive Pads, the High-Altitude Chamber, and different test sites across the country.
- Team with test stakeholders to develop/understand test requirements and test results.
- Support continuous development and improvement of department measurement assurance plan.
- Collaborate with multiple team members in the areas of experimental measurements and diagnostics.

Salary Range:
$127,900 - $217,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these required Qualifications:
- You have a Master's degree in a STEM field (Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, etc.), and one year relevant experience or a PhD in a relevant STEM field
- Experience with imaging, other data acquisition systems or electrical systems supporting thermal, mechanical, or electrical test activities
- Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q-Level Security Clearance
Qualifications We Desire:
- Ability to plan imaging, instrumentation, or other data acquisition tests, document test plans, oversee work planning and controls, and review test reports
- Experience with data analysis and statistical analysis
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results, effectively manage people, and guide multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through to completion on multiple tasks
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and customer service skills

About Our Team:
The Measurement Sciences and Engineering Department is responsible for collecting and analyzing the data that is delivered to ND and SPP customers for tests carried out at locations including sled tracks, aerial cable facilities, blast tubes, thermal/fire science facilities, mechanical shock, drop towers, and other Sandia owned testing capabilities in addition to test facilities outside Sandia. We specialize in data collection for testing that ranges from small to large scale.
