Job Description
Executive Director of Campus Recreation
The University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) is one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious higher education institutions. Pitt invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for its next executive director of campus recreation as the community prepares to open the state-of-the-art Recreation and Wellness Center in the fall of 2025. The collaborative and holistic programs and services housed in the center will serve as a transformative space in the heart of the campus. This is an on-site leadership role.
Reporting to the associate dean of students for student wellness, the executive director of campus recreation will provide visionary leadership, innovation, and senior decision-making for campus recreation on the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) campus. They will advance innovative well-being programs and recreational services, including but not limited to club sports, intramurals, fitness and wellness, and outdoor and adventure pursuits. The executive director will work collaboratively with the student wellness team and division departments, campus partners, and the community to advance the campus’ and surrounding communities’ well-being. The executive director oversees recreation and wellness facilities, manages a growing professional staff of about 20, including three direct reports and over 375 student employees, and oversees a fee-generated operating budget of approximately $3 million.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree; seven or more years of experience in collegiate athletics and/or in a campus recreation, commercial, or a public fitness or recreational setting; progressive experience managing a dynamic campus recreation/wellness organization, including experience with multiple facilities and programs, staff supervision, budget management; and certifications in First Aid and CPR. A master’s degree in a related field, university experience, inclusive and adaptive fitness programming experience, and engagement in NIRSA-Leaders in Collegiate Recreation professional association are preferred.
