High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of 2 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must pass a pre-employment physical.

Position Description:

The Plant Operator II position assists the Plant Operator with the maintenance for the oil, and gas fired boilers, centrifugal refrigeration equipment, and underground tunnel system for the steam and chilled water distribution. This is an essential position and position requires person to be available to work various work schedules. Must be insurable through the University Vehicle Insurance Policy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and repair steam plant equipment to make sure it is safe, reliable, and efficient production of steam. Reduce system “down time” and eliminate steam and/or water leakage in the plant.

  • Steam distribution systems maintenance – ensure there is safe and efficient supply of steam and chill water to the campus via the tunnel system. Keep accurate inspection records of the tunnel system. Reduce steam and/or water leakage in the distribution system.

  • Chilled water operations – Operate the chillers in a safe and efficient manner. Maintain logs and chilled water operating systems. Perform accurate chemical tests on the chilled water systems. Inject water treatment chemicals as directed.

  • Chilled water systems maintenance – make adjustments to the chilled water operating equipment as needed to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the chilled water production equipment. Clean and maintain strainers, cooling towers and tubes.

  • Boiler and chiller water chemical treatment.

  • Recordkeeping – complete and turn in required paperwork, collect data for steam and chilled waterlogs and make sure inspection records are updated as needed.

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
