Job Summary
The AEC-A&E Operations and Maintenance Team is seeking an Engineer with a diverse background in building MEP systems and building maintenance operational experience.

What You'll Do
Report to the Manager of Operations & Maintenance Engineering in Architecture, Engineering and Construction.
Be involved with trouble shooting HVAC and building issues that could hinder advancement in science and technology.
Provide engineering support for the field inspections, installation, operation and maintenance of facilities and their systems. Provide project-planning support, partner with Region and trade shops, field inspections, functional testing and project close out documentation.
Provide specifications for equipment and facilities support for the purchase of equipment, repairs and upgrades. Provide sketches to the facility trades for corrective measures and equipment replacements.
Review building projects before bidding and help develop the HVAC control for projects including control sequences of operational and anticipated controls construction cost. During project activation, provide technical support and assistance with coordination of the DDC controls shop's work.
As a member of the F&O team, collaborate with the Office of Campus Sustainability (OCS) Regional Energy Managers to develop and shape the future of the campus carbon neutral direction for campus buildings.
Evaluate building system conditions and analysis to support operations and maintenance programs to support the campus Facilities Condition Assessment (FCA). Characterize system criticality and identify improvement to maintenance practices, facility system or components of systems.
Assess existing HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems and develop recommendation for modifications to support infrastructure renewal and renovations. Calculate loads, develop estimates, compare alternatives, select equipment and collaborate with a range of partners such as Regions, Shops, Utilities and colleges.
Assess operation and support of the central chilled water and geothermal heating/chilled water plants. System equipment condition evaluation; pumping system(s) operations. Assistance includes Life extension, load shed plans, chiller/ heat pump overhauls. Collaborate with planning and design, operation guidance to facilities trades.
Advise design engineers and consultants on methods and materials to be used on repairs, renovation and capital projects.
Support systems commissioning and re-commissioning with building knowledge. Oversee field-testing and make evaluations with recommendations based on the found results.
Participate with other University Engineers in the developing guidelines and specifications for design and construction. Evaluate products and new technology for applicability and use in MEP building.

Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field. State of Michigan Professional Engineering required or obtained within 1 year.
Minimum 8 years of engineering experience.
Fundamental knowledge of the concepts, practices in the mechanical/electrical area of facilities operations and maintenance engineering, and the design and construction of facilities mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems for institutional or commercial buildings. Basic knowledge of associated architectural, structural, and civil discipline work.
Knowledge of Maintenance and Operations process standards and provide documentation for these standards.
Competence with computer software including, Project, AutoCAD, REVIT, engineering equipment sizing and selection programs (Cook, Greenheck, pipeflow), load programs (Trane Trace, E20-II, eQuest-DOE2), and other engineering programs typically used in this industry.
Demonstrated knowledge of building HVAC controls, programing and applications.
Experience in project management, dealing with contractors and working with maintenance management and Skilled Trades.
