The Department of Engineering Technology in the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Program Coordinator.

About the Opportunity

This position will serve as the technical course coordinator and teach 3-4 courses per year in the Engineering Technology Program. This position will also serve as the Engineering Technology Safety Offer working with the Statler College Safety Coordinator to ensure that the Program is within all WVU safety guidelines and the Chemical Hygiene Officer working with the Statler College Chemical Hygiene Coordinator to inspect labs across the Statler College.

What You'll Do

Prepare manufacturing specimens for process demonstrations and student lab courses, including steel, aluminum, 3D print resin, and other materials. Purchase materials required for ETEC lab courses and ensure availability for faculty and instructors.
Work with faculty and instructors to review lab experiments and revise as necessary to meet curriculum needs.
Coordinate scheduling of ETEC lab courses within the Lane Innovation Hub. Verify required equipment is fully functional and available for faculty/instructor and student use.
Ensure lab areas are hazard and obstruction free. Reevaluate on a regular basis.
Develop and maintain inventory of Engineering Technology equipment. Evaluate said equipment and capabilities offered by the Engineering Technology Program. Determine if offerings are appropriate based on usage, student & faculty feedback, and current technologies. Make suggestions for changes to the Engineering Technology Program.
Maintain operating knowledge of all equipment utilized in ETEC curriculum.
Develop, maintain, and perform trainings with courses and team projects to ensure the safe operations of the equipment. Decide depth of training based on the hazardous nature of each piece of equipment and the corresponding task being performed. Assess trainings and revise as necessary.
Oversee trained and qualified equipment users to ensure the safety of the user, occupants, and equipment. Provide guidance and oversight when necessary and guarantee that procedures and protocols are upheld. Take the necessary action to safeguard users, employees, and facilities within WVU, Statler College, Engineering Technology, and Innovation Hub guidelines.
Train GTAs and graders on safety protocols and operation of course-required industrial scale equipment. Oversee weekly lab meetings for all course Graduate Teaching Assistants. Develop and administer a GTA evaluation plan.
Serve as the Engineering Technology Safety Officer. Work with Statler College Safety Coordinator to ensure that Engineering Technology program is within all WVU safety guidelines, Engineering Technology lab space users are properly trained, develop and maintain all Engineering Technology safety documentation. Communicate with Environmental Health and Safety to provide proper documentation for Engineering Technology program activities.
Work with Statler College Safety Officer to create and document user training requirements and lab safety protocols for the Engineering Technology program. Develop plan to coordinate facility access with satisfactory completion of equipment utilization and safety trainings.
Serve as the Engineering Technology program Chemical Hygiene Officer. Work with Statler College Chemical Hygiene Coordinator to inspect labs across the Statler College, ensure chemical and scrap materials are disposed of properly, develop and maintain Engineering Technology program safety procedures for machining and fabricating hazardous materials. Manage and maintain hazardous communication and hazardous waste training records. Serve as the Engineering Technology representative in the Statler Chemical Hygiene Committee.
Oversee ETEC manufacturing laboratory courses--ETEC 210L, 220L, 310L, 330L.
Teach up to 3-4 lecture/lab sequences (up to 12 credit hours per year) in the Engineering Technology Program.
Provide technical assistance to capstone design projects.
Assist with ABET engineering accreditation data collection and reporting.
Assist with Engineering Technology recruiting and retention efforts. Develop and maintain outreach demonstration collection.
Participate in training and professional development to enhance job performance.
Participate in Engineering Technology faculty and committee meetings.
Assist with other functions and tasks in the Engineering Technology program as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
A minimum of one (1) year of experience involving:
Setup, maintenance, and operations of machining and fabrication equipment
Engineering Design using different types of Computer Aided Drafting Software
Reading and understanding blueprints and part drawings.
Programming a variety of industrial-scale computer numerical controlled manufacturing equipment using computer Aided Manufacturing software
Welding experience
Instructional Lab Supervision
Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.

Ability to learn institutional requirements for the protection of intellectual property, technology transfer, and export control.
Ability to learn specific institutional or college policies and procedures.
Ability to teach procedures and principles of machining and fabrication.
Basic knowledge for accounting functions, procurement procedures, and project management.
