Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Conduct biological research in accordance with stipulated protocols and quality and safety standards. Analyze data sets for clinical or research purposes; evaluate data by performing appropriate mathematical or statistical calculations and analyses.
Perform scientific experiments for analysis and standardization. (e.g., processing soil, water and plant samples) Assist in evaluating new supplies, technology. Adjust experimental designs as necessary based on experimental data analysis. Assist in reviewing data banks for the new research findings and correlating with laboratory research findings in participating studies.
Data collection and entry, organize large data sets for analysis, and perform basic spatial analysis; maintain accurate laboratory records that record research methods, procedures, and results prepare collections of preserved specimens.
Organize the day-to-day functioning of the lab (e.g., order processing through the University’s e-procurement system, reimbursement, categorizing and organizing lab supplies, equipment and samples, constructing field equipment)
Participate in public outreach and extension work in which the lab is involved (e.g., communicating with media, making logistic arrangements, material preparation) Provides input for technical reports, research papers, scholar articles, abstracts, or recommendations.
Assist in managing laboratory team and/or monitor the quality of their work; Assist in supervising or directing the work of graduate students’ research projects and evaluating the accuracy of their work; other duties as assigned
EXPECTED SALARY: $46,000 - $47,775, commensurate with education and experience
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related field and three years of experience or Master’s degree in biology or a related field with one year of relevant experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Experience with geospatial analysis, ArcGIS, or remote sensing
(2) Demonstrated ability with working large and complex datasets, especially spatial datasets
(3) Experience in managing a lab, including ordering lab supplies and constructing/assembling basic lab equipment
(4) Experience in professional software, and preference will be given to applicants with strong programming and analytical skills (e.g., R, Python, or Matlab)
(5) Effective interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field; or a master’s degree in biology or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree in biology or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience.
