Ball State University is seeking a Staff Accountant and Financial Analyst to join our team in the Controller’s Office. The university offers excellent benefits and generous time off.
The position offers a great opportunity to learn and be challenged by the University’s financial reporting and finance systems. Working with a team and reporting directly to the Associate Controller, you will be exposed to a variety of accounting and operational processes across campus.
Job Function:
Complete daily cash functions as well as serve as backup for cash functions; support the University Controller with various project assignments, timelines, and delegated duties; review and approve SciQuest payments; support year-end financial reporting. Responsible for supporting the University Tax and Business Advisor as needed.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field from an accredited institution by date of appointment.
Minimum Experience:
No experience required.
Preferred Experience:
Financial accounting, fund accounting, or audit experience; experience in university or fund accounting.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Complete cash duties once weekly and serve as backup for cash functions completed by Financial Technical Specialist. Maintain account analysis charges in spreadsheet and notify the Director of Cash and Investments of any item changes. Complete wire transfers, approvals, and daily cash flow review.
- Provide support in the preparation of the university annual financial report; analyze accounting activity; generate reports from the Banner system; prepare supporting schedules; support financial report reviews. Responsibilities include gathering information for the analysis of component units, service concession agreements, private-public and public-public partnerships, as well gathering information related to leases and subscription-based information technology arrangements (SBITAs).
- Cross-train on duties performed by other members of the financial reporting team to maintain efficient office operations.
- Serve as a backup for the University Tax and Business Advisor for general tax related topics. Provide support to the University Tax and Business Advisor as needed.
- Review and approve SciQuest payments within the Non-PO payment approval queue.
- Support the University Controller with various project assignments, timelines, and delegated duties. Responsible for accurate data collection, analysis, and graphing of financial data. Support the Controller with creating and maintaining various financial data metrics that include historical records and trend analysis. Provide charts, graphs and PowerPoint presentations to visually show the changes and data associations.
- Review and approve journal entries for appropriate accounting; verify appropriate documentation is provided; communicate with university personnel as necessary.
- Provide project management services by updating project tasks, maintaining timelines and collecting and organizing information for various MOUs and other campus initiatives.
- Provide support with designing and implementing procedures in the Office of University Controller considering internal controls.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
