Job Description
The Homer L. Dodge Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Center for Quantum Research and Technology at the University of Oklahoma (OU) is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to perform research on precision measurements of parity violation in the weak force in the group of Dr. Emine Altuntas. This position is part of a DOE-funded partnership between OU and the Fundamental Symmetries group at Argonne National Lab. The successful candidate will be joining the ZOMBIES experiment, led by Dr. David DeMille, located at Argonne National Lab.
ZOMBIES experiment uses the methods of atomic, molecular, optical (AMO) and quantum physics towards measurements of the anapole moments of nuclei. Near term research aim is to make the first measurements of nuclear anapole moments associated primarily with neutrons. The successful candidate will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and well-resourced AMO laboratories, and an outstanding academic environment that includes a large team of experts in AMO physics, quantum science and precision measurements via atomic and molecular systems.
A Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field is required. The initial appointment will be one year, and is renewable for another one or two years, with satisfactory performance and mutual agreement. The start date of the appointment is flexible and can be as early as January 13, 2025. Compensation for the position is competitive, and travel and relocation support are available.
Strong background in ultracold atom experiments, precision measurements with atomic and molecular systems, quantum many-body experiments. Experience with lasers, ultra-high vacuum systems, optics, programming skills in Python are highly preferred. Ability to work independently and collaboratively, and excellent problem-solving skills. A proven track record of research excellence and publications in academic journals.
A complete application will include the following 4 items: • Cover Letter (max 2 pages) • Current CV: Please include a list of all publications • Reference letters: Three confidential letters of reference to be submitted via Interfolio: http://apply.interfolio.com/159567 • Research Plan: Maximum 3 pages describing past accomplishments and research goals.
