The Dental College of Georgia (DCG) at Augusta University (AU) seeks a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor in Oral Medicine or Orofacial Pain who will collaborate to ensure delivery of the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) educational program in Oral Medicine and Orofacial Pain by assisting with curriculum planning, implementation, evaluation, reporting, and review. The selected candidate will also collaborate to manage the Oral Medicine/Orofacial pain curriculum to ensure compliance with the college's mission, accreditation standards, and achievement of student learning objectives; assist with development of academic schedules; and coordinate classroom and clinic assignments for implementation of the Oral Medicine/Orofacial pain curriculum. This position will monitor DMD Oral Medicine and Orofacial pain course enrollment, curriculum inventory reports and attendance data, as required, in accordance with institutional policy and procedures. The faculty member will collaborate to provide oversight for the development, administration and analysis of Oral Medicine and Orofacial pain courses; monitor student completion of the DMD Oral Medicine/Orofacial Pain program's didactic and clinical expectations; assist with the collection and management of confidential and sensitive assessment data required for student academic progress and review assessment; and assist with Oral Medicine/Orofacial pain academic program assessment information for the DCG for the purpose of institutional decision-making and policy development. It is also expected that the position will collaborate to manage and oversee Oral Medicine and Orofacial pain clinics by treating patients through active faculty practice in Oral Medicine/Orofacial pain, providing guidance for DMD students in Oral Medicine and Orofacial pain clinics, and working collaboratively to provide guidance regarding consultations for and referrals from other student and resident clinics. This position reports to the Chair of Oral Biology & Diagnostic Sciences. The tenure track (on tenure track or not on tenure track) of this position will be determined at the time of hire once the final candidate has been selected.
Responsibilities
o Assist with DMD Oral Medicine, including Orofacial pain, curriculum planning, implementation, evaluation, reporting, and review.
o Collaborate to manage the DMD Oral Medicine/Orofacial pain curriculum to ensure compliance with the college's mission, accreditation standards and achievement of published student learning objectives.
o Assist with development of academic schedules and coordination of classroom, laboratory, and clinic assignments for implementation of the DMD Oral Medicine/Orofacial pain curriculum.
o Monitor DMD Oral Medicine/Orofacial pain course enrollment, curriculum inventory reports and attendance data, as required, in accordance with institutional policy and procedures.
o Collaborate to provide oversight for the development, administration and analysis of DMD Oral Medicine/Orofacial pain courses.
o Monitor student completion of the DMD Oral Medicine/Orofacial pain program's didactic and clinical expectations in order to endorse promotion toward graduation.
o Assist with the collection and management of confidential and sensitive assessment data required for student academic progress and review assessment.
o Assist with Oral Medicine/Orofacial pain academic program assessment information for the DCG for the purpose of institutional decision-making and policy development.
o Provide guidance for DMD students in student Oral Medicine and Orofacial pain clinics.
o Work collaboratively to provide guidance regarding consultations for and referrals from other student and resident clinics.
Required Qualifications
Degree equivalent to DMD or DDS; must be a graduate of an ADA accredited dental school or have 2 years of postgraduate training and be licensed in or eligible for licensure by the Georgia Board of Dentistry.
Certificate in Oral Medicine from a CODA-accredited residency program or Certificate in Orofacial Pain from a CODA-accredited residency program.
Graduate from an Oral Medicine or Orofacial Pain residency program.
Assistant Professor - Early level career as a faculty member with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
Associate Professor - Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor with background, education, and training consistent with the following requirements.
Professor: Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor with the background, education, and training consistent with the following requirements.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
Board certification in Oral Medicine and/or Orofacial Pain
Experience as a faculty member in Oral Medicine/Oral Pathology/Orofacial Pain.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor - Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. This salary is subject to availability of funds.
Associate Professor - Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. This salary is subject to availability of funds.
Professor - Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. This salary is subject to availability of funds.
