About the School of Aerospace Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology

The School of Aerospace Engineering (https://ae.gatech.edu/) at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for a Research Engineer in aerospace engineering to support sponsored research projects in the aerospace domain, with specific emphasis on spacecraft optical navigation, astrodynamics, and space instrumentation. Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to independently execute complex tasks in the areas of aircraft design, aerodynamic analysis, and operations research. The successful candidate will take ownership of in-house tools, codes, and workflows used for aircraft analysis, modeling, and simulation. They will play a key role in the development of advanced computational analysis techniques and high-fidelity simulation models. Leveraging expertise in advanced design methods and machine learning techniques, the candidate will conduct predictive modeling and analyze large datasets to uncover critical patterns and insights. The role also involves preparing detailed reports and presentations to communicate findings to project sponsors and stakeholders.

Responsibilities
Independently execute tasks using technical skills for projects in the field of aircraft design, hybrid electric aircraft design, hydrogen fuel cell powered aircraft design, fleet level analysis, and infrastructure requirement analysis.
Maintain in-house tools, codes, and workflows for aircraft analysis, modeling, and simulation tools.
Participate in the development of high-fidelity computational analysis techniques and in-house simulation models.
Use advanced design methods to perform predictive modeling.
Prepare reports and presentations for project sponsors.
Required Qualifications
A Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
A Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
A Doctoral degree
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Aerospace Engineering or related fields
3+ years of hybrid electric and hydrogen fuel cell aircraft sizing and synthesis.
2+ years of experience in sustainable infrastructure in aviation.
Experience using multi-disciplinary analysis & optimization (MDO/MDAO) tools and methods.
5+ scientific publication submission(s) for conferences, journals, or public repositories.
Experience using simulation tools for fleet level emissions analysis.
Experience developing codes (python, matlab, or another object-oriented language) for data analysis, pre and post-processing, and visualization.
Experience developing codes (python, matlab, or another object-oriented language) for developing modeling algorithms.
Experience overseeing/mentoring junior-level researchers.
Experience with surrogate modelling and projection creation.
Experience with aviation emissions analysis Experience with sustainable aircraft sizing.
Experience with fleet level modeling.
Experience with infrastructure and aircraft sizing integration for aviation sustainability.
Experience with advanced design methods such as surrogate modeling techniques, gaussian process regression, design of experiments, surrogate modeling techniques (e.g. Neural networks)
Demonstrated ability to perform research.
Proficient in Python, MATLAB, NPSS
Strong written and oral communication skills
