The department offers a B.F.A degree in Theatre Arts (audition/interview only) with concentrations in Acting, Musical Theatre, Physical Theatre, and Design and Production, a B.A. degree in Theatre, and Minors in Dance and Theatre. The program seeks highly qualified and motivated individuals who will play an integral role in the continued advancement of the program.
Located in Conway, South Carolina, just 9 miles from the Atlantic coastal resort city of Myrtle Beach, this highly collaborative department maintains an ambitious production season, in addition to new works and staged readings to connect students with working professionals. Department faculty maintain professional careers in their respective disciplines. Senior B.F.A. performance students participate in a New York Showcase for industry professionals. Physical Theatre students study abroad in collaboration with international partners in the theatre arts.
We seek a teacher-scholar to join one of the nation's top undergraduate Theatre programs, serving approximately 140 majors. This faculty member will teach a series of courses in acting voice habilitation, which may include The Speaking Voice, Vocal Production for the Actor, Voice and Speech, Actor's Voice Lab, and other courses in elevated text work, stage dialects, and acting/performance. The selected candidate may have opportunities in production (on rotation and based on expertise) (e.g. direction, music direction, performance, mentorship of student-directed productions in our Discovery Series). Additional duties include acting voice coaching of departmental productions, collaboration on continued curricular development, contribution to the department's yearly season auditions, assisting in recruitment for the B.A. and B.F.A. degree programs, and participation in committee work for the department, college, and university.
To be qualified for this position, applicants must have earned a terminal degree (Master of Fine Arts) in Acting or a related field and have earned certification in an established and recognized acting voice methodology (e.g. Fitzmaurice, Linklater, Hart, Rodenburg). Additionally, applicants must have 3-5 years of commensurate professional experience in the theatre, television, and/or film industries (including a strong professional résumé and significant credits as an acting voice coach, performer, and/or director in regional and national theatre companies and/or media markets) and demonstrated experience as an acting voice coach and instructor at the university and/or professional levels. Professional union affiliations (AEA, SAG/AFTRA, AGVA, SDC, or others) are preferred. Ability to also serve as an intimacy director (and/or willingness to be trained to serve in this capacity) for departmental programs is also preferred. We seek applicants who are committed to inclusive pedagogy and mentorship geared toward students from diverse backgrounds and identities with varying levels of ability and experience.
A review of applications will begin on January 1st, 2025, and continue until the position is filled.
