What Your Job Will Be Like:

Sandia National Laboratories is seeking to hire a highly motivated Facilities Electrical Engineer to support electrical design & engineering capabilities for its existing portfolio of facilities and structures. The successful candidate will join and collaborate with a dynamic group of in-house architects, mechanical engineers, structural engineers, interior designers and other electrical engineers in the development, design, and construction of buildings and infrastructure projects to provide full-service in house design services at Sandia National Labs in New Mexico.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Work with a project team and utilize the National Electrical Code on the electrical design for building or other system modifications.
  • Review designs for code compliance.
  • Review and/or update SNL adopted master specifications for the design of low voltage and primary distribution voltage electrical systems.
  • Perform electrical system analysis, prepare design drawings, develop design costs, and schedule estimates.
  • Conduct code compliance assessments and develop solutions for nonconformance.
  • Assess condition of existing building systems, equipment and site infrastructure and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Formulate electrical project plans that integrate other subject areas such as architectural, structural, civil, and mechanical, etc.
  • Provide construction support to rectify issues between proposed designs and existing field conditions.
  • Collaborate with maintenance electrical personnel on efforts related to low-to-medium voltage electrical distribution systems.

The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Salary Range:

$95,400 - $185,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited institution plus 5 years of relevant experience in facilities electrical design; or a Master’s degree in electrical engineering plus 1 year of relevant experience in facilities electrical design.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE L-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • NM Professional Engineering (PE) license or Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate or able to obtain a Professional Engineer license.
  • Experience with PC platforms; Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards (1910 and 1926) and Life Safety Code. Also, NFPA 70 and NFPA 70E.
  • REVIT or SKM design and drafting skills.
  • Experience in electrical design of buildings.
  • 120-480V Interior Facility power distributions.
  • 277 Lighting and LED upgrades.
  • Experience in lighting designs and controls.
  • Experience reading system drawings, construction plans, and system one-line schematics.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete high rigor tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to develop and nurture internal customer relationships while also working effectively in a team environment.

Facilities Design and Engineering, designs for campus development, and provides engineering support in all disciplines, including energy management for Sandia National Laboratories. By effectively providing all design and engineering services, we deliver a sustainable campus that protects the workforce, stimulates employees, fosters interaction and creative solutions. The in-house studio is aligned to partner customer needs to design projects that proactively support the customer and the corporation.

The primary focus of the group is to work on low risk and low complexity projects with a value of $1K-$500k to enable current-day and future mission success through collaboration.
