Job Summary
The Graduate School of Counseling and Psychology (GSCP) seeks to fill a full-time core faculty position in the Somatic Counseling department beginning July 1, 2025. Applicants will be able to teach in some of the following areas: Foundations and Orientation of Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Legal and Ethical Aspects of Counseling, Assessment and Research and Program Evaluation. The job includes administrative duties for the Somatic Counseling department, the Graduate School of Counseling and Psychology, and the university, including but not limited to recruitment and admission, networking regionally and nationally with other educators and clinicians within the field of somatic counseling; and actively engaging as a member of the leadership team guiding the Somatic degree program.
Qualified applicants must be able to demonstrate consistent success in negotiating the pedagogical, clinical, research, administrative, and collaborative responsibilities of a faculty appointment within the degree program, within the Graduate School of Counseling (GSC), and within the structure of the university at large.
Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Teach 20 credits across the course of the academic year (typically 10 each semester), primarily in the Somatic degree program, but potentially in other degree programs of the Graduate School of Counseling and Psychology (GSCP) as well.
• Attend and actively participate in all programmatic and school-wide meetings, as well as co-curricular events sponsored by the Somatic degree program.
• In concert with the Somatic leadership team, develop and conduct plans for assessment, community building, and ongoing curriculum development.
• Actively participate in the administrative operations of the Somatic degree program, including admissions interviews and events.
• Tracking curriculum and maintaining CACREP education standards.
• Engage in professional development that includes pedagogical approaches, contemplative education, diversity/inclusivity and development of a professional counseling identity.
• Hold regular weekly office hours and meets with students and prospective students as needed outside of class time.
• Serve on and actively participate in appointed university committees.
• Understand, update and adhere to the policies, procedures, and protocols outlined in the Naropa University Faculty and Employee Handbooks.
• Contribute to the advancement of the somatic counseling field through professional involvement such as conference presentations, original research, and publications.
• Complete additional program and university duties as assigned.
• Rotate into Department Chair position when appropriate.
What Naropa Requires:
• A doctoral degree or ABD from a graduate institution of recognized standing in counseling or counselor education from a CACREP-accredited program or have a related doctoral degree and have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013.
• Professionally identifies as a professional counselor through documented sustained involvement (publications, presentations, leadership positions) with professional counseling organizations such as Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, the American Counseling Association and or Colorado Counseling Association or any of their divisions; licenses or credentials typically associated with professional counselors.
• 3+ years of clinical experience as a therapist and a comprehensive understanding of the counseling field and those it serves.
• Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Colorado at the Professional Counselor (LPC).
• Registered or certified in a nationally recognized Somatic/Body Psychotherapy modality.
• Familiar with historic and contemporary principles and practices of somatic counseling.
• 1-3 years of teaching experience at the graduate level that is informed and enriched by clinical practice, including demonstrated proficiency in using contemplative and somatic approaches.
• Commitment to co-create an inclusive community and actively participate in related professional development, including openness to feedback and ongoing self-examination.
• An ability to work with others in an administrative and leadership capacity.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and a collaborative style.
• Demonstrated skill in recognizing and addressing issues related to privilege, oppression, diversity and inclusivity, especially with regard to curriculum content and classroom facilitation.
