Augusta University is seeking an artist of national or international distinction to fill a non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Professor and serve as the William S. Morris Eminent Scholar in Art. The ideal candidate will have a distinguished reputation as a visual artist, with notable achievements in contemporary art practices. Additional qualifications may include publications and art historical research. The candidate should also be proficient in teaching a traditional art medium such as painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, and/or printmaking. A strong commitment to community outreach is essential and expected. This position is a contracted faculty position which is subject to the Board of Regents contract renewal policy 8.3.4.2. This position is limited to no more than five years.
The Morris Scholar will teach one studio course per semester, continue high-level professional activities, provide leadership in appropriate community activities and work with diverse public audiences through an ongoing involvement with the Morris Museum of Art and other community-based cultural endeavors. The Morris Scholar receives a salary of $100,000 per annum, a Discretionary Fund of $15,000 and an on-campus studio.
Responsibilities
  • To serve at the level of Eminent Scholar
  • To teach one studio art class per semester (two classes a year)
  • To serve AU by establishing and maintaining ties within the Augusta arts community and be an active artistic presence within Augusta and the region
  • To reside in Augusta (or the CSRA) as the primary residence during the term of the position.
  • To maintain a high level of professional activity as an artist on a regional and national level during the term as Morris Eminent Scholar.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree or equivalent in the appropriate discipline or its equivalent in training, ability, or experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications
Terminal degree or equivalent in the appropriate discipline.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.
Professor- $100,000 per annum, a Discretionary Fund of $15,000 and an on-campus studio.
