The Department of Performing Arts seeks an instructor for:
Spring 2025
DANCE 402 Dance Company Rehearsal: Tap
Course hours: MW 3:20-4:20
Course Description: This course will be taught in person, on campus. The instructor of this course will choreograph a tap piece for the Saint Mary's College Dance Company. The rehearsal is expected to challenge tap dancers while also providing the necessary skills and understanding for an appreciation of the artistic, athletic, and social qualities of the form. The instructor will hold an audition the first week of classes, Feb. 3, 2025. The instructor will rehearse 2.0 hours per week beginning Feb. 10, 2025 to prepare for performance in the spring dance concert May 8-10, 2025.
The instructor will work with the Dance Production Manager, Lighting and Costume Designers, and the Spring Concert Director to schedule spacing and lighting rehearsals during tech week.
Dance faculty are also required to attend dance faculty meetings and will be compensated for these hours.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have experience teaching and choreographing in the African American Diaspora of Tap dance to college age students, preferably DANCE 211 and DANCE 321 at Saint Mary's College. The candidate must also be an expert in the style of tap with professional experience in the field including but not limited to training in Broadway musical theater, Rhythm Tap, lineage from tap legends such as Arlene Kennedy and a dance major from an accredited college or university.
Applicants must reside in California.
Salary: $2,482 - $3,436 depending on qualifications
The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
