Position Description:

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Louisville continues to experience a robust phase of growth and expansion and is seeking a full-time Senior Manager, Business Unit Administration.

The Senior Manager, Business Unit Administration will provide high-level strategic, budgeting, and financial leadership for the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. This role supervises departmental staff and ensures the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of payroll processing, employment actions, and operating expenses. The Senior Manager will oversee the preparation of financial reports and statements for department leadership, monitor professional billing processes, and oversee medical director billing. The Senior Manager will collaborate with departmental, practice plan, and health system leadership on funding strategies, initiatives, and business operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Human Resources: Responsible for managing departmental staff, and related employment actions.

  • Financial Oversight: Oversee financial transactions and reconciliations, prepare and analyze financial reports for department leadership, and ensure the accuracy of financial data. Evaluate and audit financial systems, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance. Prepare department budget, variance analysis, quarterly physician bonuses, and medical director billing.

  • Grant Management: Approve pre-award grant budgets and manage post-award sponsored research. Review accounting and financial data for grants and research accounts, resolving any discrepancies.

  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Perform detailed statistical analysis to identify trends, providing high-level reports to the executive director, including linear regression, forecasting, data modeling, and hypothetical assumptions. Create ad-hoc reports for presentation to leadership, verifying the accuracy of all financial reports and findings.

  • Outreach Services: Promote outreach services by developing, implementing, and evaluating goals, standards, policies, and processes using lean practices to meet or exceed customer needs and expectations.

  • Operations Management: Oversee IT and space management.

  • Committee Participation: Serve on committees related to the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and its affiliates.

  • Additional Duties: Perform other business roles in the department as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Power BI or Tableau.

  • People management experience.

  • Prior experience working in an academic medical center setting.

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
