Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field and two (2) years of general or fund accounting experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Grade 5 (Salaried)

Position Description:

The primary responsibilities of the Accountant II (Lease Accountant) for the University of Louisville, will be to maintain the lease and SBITA accounting subledger by adding new lease, updating for lease extensions, and retiring expired leases, initiate related journal vouchers, and reconcile the subledger to the general ledger. Assure monthly reconciliation of assigned asset and liability accounts, ensure monthly and quarterly journal entries are accurately accounted for in the general ledger for university activities. Research and analysis of account variances and correcting actions, as necessary. Will be tasked with review of contracts to ascertain needed information. Will learn fixed asset accounting duties to serve as a backup and to provide additional support. Also responsible for general ledger support throughout university financial community; assists with audit preparation and reporting to outside entities.

A working knowledge of general accounting and related concepts is necessary to effectively perform the duties. Independently make judgement in the context of established guidelines, analytical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to address issues with internal and external constituents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain the lease and SBITA accounting subledger by adding new lease, updating for lease extensions, and retiring expired leases.

  • Reconcile the lease and SBITA subledger to the general ledger.

  • Update and maintain the lessor accounting subledger and reconcile to the general ledger.

  • Perform lease completeness procedures on a monthly basis.

  • Review of third-party lease agreements and ability to identify significant terms.

  • Preparation of journal entries through review and reconciliation of programs.

  • Participate in month-end and year-end close, including entries for accruals and top-side GAAP adjustments.

  • Maintain and Prepare Service Concession schedules and prepare monthly journal entries as needed.

  • Assist with the preparation of internal and external reporting.

  • Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts and ability to analyze account detail to research outages.

  • Post monthly journal entries during month end close process, including month end accruals.

  • Assist Capital Asset Accountant with asset tagging, CIP adjustments, research and other duties as needed.

  • Process and close depreciation expense on a monthly basis.

  • Prepare year end roll-forward schedules for Leases and SBITAs.

  • Prepare various year end schedules and journal entries as assigned.

  • Build Analytical Reports using Oracle SmartView Report Writer through excel to assist in monthly analytics.

  • Work with Directors and Assistant Directors to establish and maintain controls and segregation of duties.

  • Assess policies, processes and procedures over university financial activities to keep them current, relevant and efficient.

  • Cross-train for duties of other department accountants for redundancy and process continuation.

  • Participate in system upgrade testing for the WorkDay implementation project as deemed necessary.

  • Special projects as assigned by supervisor.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Excel and data query tools

  • Attention to detail oriented and excellent organizational skills.

  • Experience with both lessee and lessor accounting.

  • Experience with budgetary accounting.

  • Experience with large accounting software package. PeopleSoft is utilized by the University, will be transition.

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
