12-month clinical (non-tenure track) position in the Kentucky Reading Research Center

The College of Education and Human Development is seeking candidates for a full-time term faculty position. This position will be at the rank of Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor in the Kentucky Reading Research Center. It is a non-tenure-track, 12-month renewable appointment. The start date for this position is January 1, 2025.

THE POSITION

The Kentucky Reading Research Center (KRRC) is seeking applications for a 12-month research faculty position. This non-tenure role entails research development, administration, and evaluation as a part of the KRRC charge to create a national clearinghouse for reading research and analyze a range of data related to reading achievement in Kentucky. This involves familiarity with research methodology and analysis of large data sets.

Ideal candidates will possess an advanced doctoral degree in Education or measurement/evaluation, coupled with a minimum of five years of demonstrable experience with (1) research in schools and/or (2) research methodology and analysis involving large data sets. Of particular interest are candidates exhibiting a robust background in literacy research and familiarity with research methods in this area. We encourage applicants with diverse experiences capable of fostering enduring partnerships with the KRRC, the CEHD, and the broader university and community stakeholders.

The mission of the Kentucky Reading Research Center at the University of Louisville is to advance the science of reading through rigorous research toward understanding the complexities of literacy development across diverse populations and educational contexts. Our goal is to translate research findings into easily accessible information and to promote effective instructional strategies and interventions that empower educators, support families, and facilitate student success, Our commitment is to making a meaningful difference with literacy in Kentucky and across the nation. We are charged by the Kentucky Department of Education (funder) with reviewing and analyzing the full literacy literature, and with conducting multiple studies meeting the What Works Clearinghouse criteria for evidence-based practices.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities of this faculty position are focused on research. Duties will include (1) reviewing the literature in specific areas related to literacy instruction and writing overviews; (2) collaborating with the research team to create summary descriptions of effective practices – based on the available evidence; (3) consulting on specific research questions and methodologies, developing and administering to plans for collecting, housing, and analyzing data and large data sets; (4) Organizing and cleaning data for analysis; (5) conducting high level analyses of research outcomes; and (6) collaborating in writing up results as research reports and professional publications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION (required)

  • PhD in Education and/or measurement and evaluation and at least five years of experience working in schools and conducting research.

  • A history of research and publication in education

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills as well as organizational and administrative skills

  • Demonstrates strength and/or the potential for excellence and leadership in scientific research and publishing

  • A knowledge of High-Quality Instructional Resources (HQIR) in Kentucky

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least eight years of experience at the collegiate or professional level

  • Demonstrates knowledge of evidence-based teaching practices

  • Experience with large data sets and data analysis

  • Experience doing research in schools

SALARY: Competitive, based upon qualifications and experience

APPOINTMENT: 12-month with the possibility of summer teaching

ANTICIPATED START DATE: January 1, 2025
