The Dance department is seeking an instructor for DANCE 322 Advanced West African Dance Ensemble in the Spring 2025 term.
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 1:30 - 3:00 PM
This course will be taught in person, on campus.
Course Description: The Saint Mary's College dance program is seeking a faculty member to create and rehearse a West African dance in
person with students. The rehearsal process will include generating material in the African Diaspora, and ask students to explore and research the Black body in dance. Throughout the course, students will learn various concepts surrounding dance including music, history of dance, culture, etiquette, and application in social settings as well as stage performances.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have several years of experience teaching and choreographing West African Dance at the college level and be able to serve as the accompanist for the class as well.
Applicants must reside in California.
Salary: $2,482 - $3,436 depending on qualifications
The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
