Job Purpose
Assistant or Associate Professor of Medicinal/Pharmaceutical Chemistry with an expected start date of Fall 2025/2026.
Main accountabilities & expectations
Teach courses related to Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels. This includes preparing and delivering lectures, supervising students, conducting and assessing student learning through examinations and other assignments.
Engage in scholarly research activities in drug design and discovery field, including securing funding, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting at conferences. Also expected to supervise graduate students' research projects.
Developing and updating the curriculum, including selecting appropriate textbooks and other resources and incorporating current research and developments in the field.
Provide academic advising to students, including guidance on course selection, career paths, and research opportunities.
Keep up-to-date with the latest research, trends, and technologies related to the field. They may attend conferences, workshops, and other professional development opportunities.
Collaborate with colleagues within the institution, as well as external partners, to advance research, teaching, and service activities.
Participate in service activities that contribute to the institution, the profession, and the community. This may include serving committees, mentoring students, providing community outreach, and participating in professional organizations.
Provide assistance in research activities of the drug design and discovery domain.
Understand the training and education needs of the medicinal chemistry community; align and drive appropriate workshops, master classes, seminars and courses.
Coordinating and supporting tthe activities of the Drug Design and Discovery research lab at the Research Institute of Medical and Health Sciences (RIMHS), University of Sharjah.
Preparing working group meeting minutes and reports; Ensuring timeous circulation of working group related information.
Required Skills
Experience in conducting independent research, analysing data, and publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals, supported by a high H-index and citations record.
Ability to design and deliver effective lectures, develop and assess learning objectives, and provide constructive feedback to students.
Ability to lead and collaborate with colleagues, mentor students and junior faculty members, and participate in departmental and university-wide committees.
Familiarity with educational technology and learning manage ment systems and proficiency in statistical analysis software and other relevant software programs.
Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry is a MUST. BSc. in Pharmacy or PharmD is required.
At least two years post-Ph.D. teaching experience in the field at undergraduate and graduate levels.
Good communication skills (speaking and writing).
Multicultural Western exposure is a PLUS.
