This position provides oversight for the daily business and financial operations for the Senior Vice President for Research. Responsibilities are broad in scope and include all operational components that support the research mission across the university. This position also manages the financials and funding distribution for the Research Institute, a separate 501 (c) 3, not for profit.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
- Provides operational and organizational leadership to the Senior Vice President for Research. Advise and support the research leadership team on programs, policies, and all components of daily business operations. This includes, but is not limited to, human resource related processes and requirements, recruitment, orientation, contract negotiation, contract management, and expenditure approvals. Serves as primary contact for Research Administration on all operational components of the university's research mission.
- Provides executive oversight of resources assigned to Research, ensures resources are allocated in a manner consistent with the strategic goals and priorities of the university as approved by the President, Provost, and Board of Regents; serves as role model responsible for good stewardship of institutional resources. Oversees business operations and financial reporting for all units and divisions reporting the research (Sponsored Programs, OIC, LAS, IRB, CTO, RDS, IPPH, CTS, and IACUC). Oversee: AU Core Lab Finances, AU Pilot Grant Program and other intramural activities supported by SVPR, and lnfoReady Software for Pilot Grant Program. Advises SVP for Research of the status of strategic commitments and maintains accurate accounting. Provides oversight and management of research strategic funds, monitors status of all funded projects, institutional research programs, initiatives, and financial commitments.
- Provides fiscal oversight for Augusta University Research Institute, Inc. (AURI) including but not limited to: Tracks operational and program budgets for reporting to AURI Board of Directors and AURI Finance Committee (approx. $3.8 million in expenditures annually) and provides monthly. financial reports to the Executive Director. Receipt approximately $77 million in grant revenue and $1 million other revenue annually. Provide data and schedules for AURI annual external audit. Prepare annual 1099 forms to external vendors. Manages AURI accounts payables and receivables including federal drawdown payments and royalty payments. Reconciliation of financials on a monthly basis. Serves as AURl's representative to banking, audit, IRB, and other external agencies. Manage AURl's investment/savings accounts (approximate $7 million). Point of contact for annual audit by independent accounting firm.
- Works collaboratively with the Office of the Provost and other colleges, schools, and business units across the institution on research related matters, represents the Senior Vice President and the Associate Vice President on operational and/or financial related matters to other administrative units (President, Provost, Legal, Audit and Compliance, HR, etc.)
- Provides leadership and guidance to ensure compliance with all institutional policies, BOR policies, and state and federal regulations. Responsible for ensuring policies and practices foster excellence. Primary contact for all regulatory and compliance matters related to human resources, space management, and financial accounting.
Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or related discipline from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated management experience, including supervisory experience and general account knowledge; OR a Masters of Business Administration with a minimum of 3 years for experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of faculty and staff recruitment and retention, program development, and revenue forecasting. Comprehensive knowledge of state and federal workplace compliance guidelines. Working knowledge of the role of a research institute. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational, problem-solving, prioritization, financial management, time management and multi-tasking skills.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality. Reliable and ability to make sound judgement. Ability to maintain confidentiality and work under deadlines. Ability to embrace the tripartite mission of Augusta University. Ability to promote interdisciplinary team building and project management.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)
Pay Band: B17
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
