College/Department Information
The Division of Sponsored Programs Administration and the Augusta University Research Institute serve as a central unit to coordinate and support Augusta University's Internal and External Sponsored Projects.
The Division aims to identify, support, and advance opportunities for research, training, teaching, and scholarly activities by managing the entire lifecycle of sponsored project from proposal and grant development and submission to contract preparation, award management, and project close out management. The DSPA seeks to advance extramural support programs for the institution by providing administrative, informational, and logistical assistance to faculty and staff, while ensuring compliance with pertinent policies and regulations of the institution, extramural sponsors, and federal oversight agencies.
Job Summary
The primary responsibility of this position is the facilitation and negotiation of sponsored programs agreements (e.g. industry sponsored clinical and non-clinical agreements, incoming subawards, etc.) to protect Augusta University Research Institute, Inc., Augusta University, the Principal Investigator (PI), and the affiliated hospital in the following major areas: appropriate costing and budget, patient and medical staff safety, including protection of personally identifiable and/or health related information; intellectual property (IP) rights and ownership; liability (damages, injury and indemnification) and insurance; publications; warranty; and infringement at a minimum. Provide professional consultation, advise and direct investigators, facilitate the negotiation and processing of grant/contract agreements, and work in close collaboration with the Office of Legal Affairs as necessary.

Responsibilities to include but not limited to:

Receives and reviews sponsored programs related contracts and agreements (e,g. industry sponsored clinical and non-clinical master and study specific agreements, incoming and outgoing subawards, etc.) and other sponsored programs agreements as assigned.
Responsible for timely editing and negotiating the agreements and ensuring the contract and agreement terms are in accordance with, federal, state, sponsor, and University policies, guidelines, regulations, statues, and laws.
Identifies when legal review is required for unique or complex issues outside normal templates and protocols and proactively seeks legal advice from the Office of Legal Affairs.
Confirms that the final executable agreement includes required AU budgetary and non-budgetary terms/clauses, final budgets are CMS compliant and aligned with informed consent documents and protocol, and all necessary compliance approvals are in place.
Responsible for ensuring that the final executable version of the contract incorporates all budgetary and non-budgetary revisions made during the negotiations process.

Track contracts and grants requiring negotiation from inception to execution while documenting the status of clinical trial agreements in On-Core.
Processes amendments and modifications to agreements.
Work within the pre-award database to update contract and other information accordingly

Works collaboratively with the SVP of Research Office, Clinical Trial Office and other clinical trial units, Research Development Services and AUMC, the Institutional Review Board, the Office of Innovation Collaboration, Pre-Award Services and the Office of Legal Affairs to facilitate the timely review and negotiation of sponsored programs agreements.
Work with departments and faculty to provide assistance with and contract proposal preparation.
Cultivate relationships with sponsors.
Prepare monthly contract metric reports as required.

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirement
Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university.
Required Experience
Minimum of two years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience
Experience in contract negotiations, drafting and/or reviewing contracts and sub-agreements.
Experience working with contracting and grant guidelines and regulations.
Experience working at a university negotiating terms and conditions in legal agreements is highly preferred.

Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
Solid understanding of legal principles and skilled in contract language.
Demonstrated ability accurately comprehend and interpret medical and scientific terminology.
Detail-oriented with strong multi-tasking, imaginative and innovative problem solving, time management and organizational skills.
Ability to handle a high volume throughput in a timely manner and to interpret, convey, explain, and uphold regulatory and institutional requirements.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday-Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Pay Grade: B12
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
