The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University seeks a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor for immediate recruitment in the Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine Division. The Division has an accredited cystic fibrosis center and is a national referral center for hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) and pulmonary vascular disease. We have a strong Pulmonary, Critical Care fellowship program with busy critical care and sleep services. Our faculty collaborate with investigators in the Vascular Biology Center and the Georgia Cancer Center, BMT and renal transplant. In addition to medical ICU coverage, we also provide consultative services for neuro-critical care patients. The Medical College of Georgia is competitive program and enrolls 230 students in the MD program annually. Interest in critical care, palliative care, hematological critical care, sarcoidosis, asthma, COPD, sleep, lung cancer, interventional pulmonology and clinical research is a plus. This position is not considered to be on tenure track.
Responsibilities
Clinical
(6) two-week block of MICU Coverage
(2-3) two-week block of Consult Coverage
(5-7) half-day Clinics per week on General Pulmonary or your specific area of interest
(8-15) one-week block of Weekend/Weeknight call as primary attending
(6-10) Weekend call to round on MICU and Pulmonary services
The coverage of Medical Intensive Care Unit expects for each team to care for 12-15 critically ill patients. However, during critical care surge situation (e.g COVID or any natural disaster) the patient volume may exceed 15.
Your primary responsibility will be provide outpatient pulmonary care, and depending on your interest you may start a specialty service either in asthma, alpha 1 AT deficiency or COPD or any other focus of your choice.
Participate in scholarly activities, such as clinical/translational research as outlined and agreed upon by the Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Support a productive program of scholarly activities amongst trainees and junior faculty.
Attend pulmonary fellow's didactic lecture.
Participate in industry sponsored clinical trials.
Teaching
Actively participate in the teaching activities of the division including students, residents and fellows (weekly conferences/teaching attending).
Propose sessions in pulmonary or critical care topics during national meetings of Society for Critical Care Medicine, American Thoracic Society and American College of Chest Physicians.
Participate in the fellow conference as a resource in Pulmonary or critical care topics
Required Qualifications
MD, DO or equivalent and BC/BE in Pulmonary, Critical Care Medicine
Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.
Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
