Job Description

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Oklahoma (OU) is seeking to strengthen its First-Year Mathematics program, specifically focusing on entry-level mathematics classes. OU is experiencing an exciting multi-year period of growth. We are looking for multiple Instructors/Lecturers in Mathematics who are able to challenge students at an appropriate level and understand the importance of meeting the needs of incoming students, some of whom may have had uneven prior instruction in mathematics. We encourage hard-working, enthusiastic individuals to apply for the renewable term faculty position listed below.

For the position(s), normal duties consist of teaching the equivalent of 25 credits per year of entry-level classes and rendering service to the department and university. Limited evening work is expected, which primarily includes proctoring during the uniform examinations.

The position may grow into having some leadership responsibilities, most likely related to course coordination. Some work writing reports, leading training sessions for new TAs and tutors, and observing new instructors is also expected. It is also possible that a candidate may be asked to teach courses for future elementary teachers.

The University of Oklahoma (OU) is a Carnegie-RU/VH public research university known for excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement. With over 30,000 students and more than 2,700 full-time faculty members in 21 colleges, OU serves the educational, cultural, economic, and healthcare needs of the state, region, and nation from three campuses: the main campus in Norman, the Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, and the Schusterman Center in Tulsa.

Norman, a culturally rich and vibrant town located just outside Oklahoma City, is a perennial contender in “Best Places to Live” rankings due to its outstanding schools, amenities, and low cost of living. Visit https://www.ou.edu/facultyrecruitment for more information.

      willingness and ability to incorporate active learning and inquiry-based strategies that foster meaningful student engagement;

      experience teaching concurrent courses (i.e., college courses offered to high school students),

      experience tutoring in a college or university mathematics tutoring center;

      experience teaching or working with the professional development of future elementary or secondary mathematics teachers;
