Qualifications:
Organic Chemistry II laboratory, the second in a 2-semester sequence focuses on the structure and reactivity of aromatic compounds, aldehydes and ketones, carboxylic acids and derivatives, and amines. The laboratory includes an emphasis on multi-step organic syntheses and discussion of biologically-relevant organic compounds.
This course will be taught in person on the Moraga campus during the 2025 Spring term on Thursdays from 8:00 - 11:00 am.
In addition to teaching, the instructor is expected to hold regular office hours (a minimum of one hour per week) in order to provide students with support outside of the classroom.
To ensure consistency between sections of this multi-section course, instructors will faithfully implement the syllabus, experiments, laboratory activities, assessments, and/or grading standards provided by the Lab Coordinator or Department Chair.
The successful candidate will hold an advanced degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field; and undergraduate teaching experience in organic chemistry lecture or lab, OR teaching experience in any subfield of chemistry and research experience in organic chemistry (CV, sample syllabus). Preference will be given to those who have previously taught the course or CHEM 104, CHEM 104L, CHEM 106 or CHEM 106L.
Candidates must reside in California.
The salary range for this position is $6,208 - $8,590 (2.5 units) and is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
