The Ball State University Libraries is looking for a talented collaborator and detail-oriented technical analyst to join our committed and highly engaged team as Library Technical Support Analyst. As part of the Library Data and Discovery Solutions group in the University Libraries, the successful candidate will provide support, administration, analysis, workflow assistance and development work on enterprise-wide library solutions including Ex Libris Alma, Summon and Leganto, plus ILLiad and EZProxy solutions. Job Function:

Provide ongoing support, administration, analysis and development of computer/data systems and processes critical to the services and operations of University Libraries; integrate new library information technology solutions with existing library systems supporting faculty teaching and research and student learning; support an inclusive, diverse, and collaborative work environment and service culture to advance the strategic direction of the University Libraries.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s or master's degree in computer science, library and information science, information systems/technology, MIS, or related field at time of appointment.

Preferred Education:

Other advanced degrees in related fields with strong emphasis in information system management.

Minimum Experience:

At least one year of experience supporting, configuring, administering, troubleshooting, and networking library solutions; in-depth knowledge of various computer platforms including Windows, Mac, UNIX.

Preferred Experience:

Additional years of experience in information systems support, project management, and administration of library services platforms such as ExLibris Alma, interlibrary loan management solutions, OpenURL link resolvers, and discovery solutions, and user authentication solutions such as EZProxy; demonstrated experience using Perl, PHP, ASP.NET, JavaScript Framework, Java and/or other web interface technologies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide input and direction for the analysis, design, and integration of the Alma library services platform and other enterprise-wide applications operated by University Libraries, including development and management of web-based library services.
  • Integrate new technologies and methodologies for library services applications and systems; develop library services involving access to electronic resources; research, test, and evaluate emerging technologies, assuring usability, effective delivery across varying platforms and architecture to enhance library operations and services.
  • Develop and recommend policies, procedures, and standards for the implementation, operation, and support of library computer systems and online solutions.
  • Plan and implement the analysis, design, configuration, installation, maintenance, administration, and disaster recovery methodologies for library systems.
  • Support the Head of Library Technologies in establishing direction for integrating services, backups, upgrades, security, and access management.
  • Update, maintain, and document both locally and remotely hosted applications and databases in University Libraries.
  • Support the Head of Library Technologies by recommending workflow within the unit, assisting with the development of upgrade and implementation strategies; and provide training for peers and project partners.
  • Coordinate and participate in special projects as requested.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to the activities of the Libraries, university, and profession through professional organizations, presentations, committee service, publication, etc.; keep abreast of professional literature and scholarly developments in areas of specialization and pursue opportunities for relevant professional development.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
