Job Function:

Minimum Education:
1.High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
Minimum Experience:
1. Successful completion of an apprenticeship program in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning as approved by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training; or five (5) years of experience in HVAC; or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable job knowledge can be acquired as determined by Ball State University.
2. Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, University policies, procedures, and communications, and perform mathematical functions.
3. Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy.
4. Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty.
5. Universal certification as noted in federal register 40 CFR 82 Sub Part F to handle all refrigerants.
6. No allergies to soaps, cleaning agents, chemicals, or other materials or
environmental factors in food service, e.g. steam, dust, etc.
7. You must be 18 years or older.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Install, adjust, and repair refrigeration, heating, air conditioning, and ventilating systems.
- Read and monitor gauges, meters, and thermostats; adjust and repair control systems.
- Check structural and functional components, i.e., motors, controls, switches, gauges, valves, pumps, and compressors.
- Install and repair water treatment and air handling equipment.
- Read and interpret drawings, diagrams, and specifications to insure compliance with appropriate codes.
- Maintain tools and work area in clean, orderly, secure, ready to use condition; maintain usable inventory of commonly used repair parts; obtain special and less commonly used repair parts from Maintenance Supervisor; perform periodic lubrication and related preventative maintenance operations as necessary.
- Acquire and maintain knowledge of various job related chemicals and environmental concerns.
- Construct, fabricate, remodel, maintain, and repair air system fabrications for HVAC Systems as directed.
- Repairs and maintains building facilities including, but not limited to: water softening equipment, air handlers, exhaust systems, pumps, temperature control systems, hot water generators, fresh water plumbing and fittings, drains, steam/condensate return lines/traps, lighting fixtures, electrical devices, ceiling, wall, and floor treatments, doors, and windows (excluding glass replacement), and dining room furnishings; installing and replacement of wall, ceiling, covering and tile; removal and replacement of block, brick, and masonry surfaces; installation and repair of wall surfaces like drywall, plaster and paneling, through final surface finishing; construct, erect, remodel, maintain and repair building and facilities; maintain, inspect, and perform preventative maintenance on buildings and equipment including those that are mechanical and electrical.
