Summary

The position is for an experienced medicinal chemist. The position involves the synthesis of small molecules for drug discovery. The job requires that the Staff Scientist is able to devise synthetic routes for the creation of a desired small molecule and the experience to carry out the synthesis. Should be able to trouble shoot difficulties in synthesis and devise alternate synthetic procedures to successfully produce the desired small molecule. Will also be versed in safe laboratory practices for chemical synthesis.

Job Duties

  • Design and synthesize small molecule compounds for drug discovery.
  • Troubleshoot synthesis problems and create solutions to complete the synthesis.
  • Keep a detailed notebook description of all chemical steps taken in the synthesis.
  • Work with the project team on the design of the appropriate small molecules for testing to advance projects.
  • Participate in drafting manuscripts for publications.
  • Be versed in safe laboratory practices for chemical synthesis.
  • Make weekly presentations to the team describing progress and problems in chemical synthesis.
  • Attend departmental seminars and other departmental functions.
  • Synthesis of small molecules for discovery of antimicrobial agents.
  • Regular presentations of progress to the discovery team.
  • Attend weekly laboratory meeting.
  • Attend weekly departmental seminars.
  • Performother job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Three years of post doctoral research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry with a focus in Medicinal Chemistry
  • Postdoctoral training relevant to chemical synthesis for drug discovery
  • Candidate must be able to collaborate and work well with others in a team setting
